OEM all is fine for autocross.
Tires will be quicker but learning on stocks is a great way to start. First thing I would do is Camber bolts plus alignment to help reduce tire wear. Then brake fluid. Then tires. In that order for learners. See the C Street Questions thread in my signature for a lot of indepth information

That's basically all you need to do. Really. Car could be driven off the showroom floor and be good.Get all your loose shit out of it so you don't have quarters, french fries, soccer balls, etc. flying around inside while you're on the course. - Andy |

In all my years I have never done an auto-x event. I've come close, but then I'd just register for HPDEs. I agree though, if you haven't been on the track, definitely do so before modding. Too much good comes out of it.

If you are in CO, lookup Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing (rmvr.com).
They have a "Precision driving course" and a "competition driving course" coming April 23-24 at Pikes Peak International Raceway. Both are essentially the same, but only people that show up with an actual race car (complete with rollcage & fuel cell) can participate in the full-up race on Sunday afternoon. You can bring your street car to either class. For $300 for two days of professional instruction it is a good deal. http://rmvr.com/temp/2016-drivers-school-brochure.pdf Here is my other "2.0L 4-cyl boxer" next to my Brother's Triumph:

More importantly, Autox is safer for drivers unacustom to events and far less hard on your car especially if its stock. But another thing is that Auto-x skills translate better to track days than the other way around. You also get to "exceed" your cars limits in autox so you can understand what is going to happen with the car when you do... On a track if that happens, you could eat a wall. |
