The app can display some additional information that the newer V1 radar detectors pick up but can't display on their faces. You can also use the app to program the detector.
Unfortunately I have one of the older V1s that can't display all the info, so the app wouldn't be very useful to me. All the app would do for my detector is to display the same information that I already have on the remote display. Quote:
Although I no longer drive in VA very often, I personally don't want a permanent remote sensor installation because I have multiple vehicles and use rental cars when I fly. I like being able to pack my V1 in its case and take it with me. Besides that, Valentine doesn't offer a remote sensor installation because the V1 works best when its sensors are high up. A body installation would actually decrease its effectiveness. |

Right now it's ugly because it has the coily cord hanging straight down into the glove box outlet. Once I get the permanent power wired up the A-pillar, it actually won't be very noticeable. |

That's true for all radar detectors. Higher is always better. More accurate (reduced multipath from ground/hood bounce) and better range.

Got this In The monthly email.
April 2014: What mom really needs I was driving home tonight through a small town. I had just passed a truck when V1 chirped the distinct sound of radar, arrow pointing ahead. I immediately slowed, and the truck zoomed by me. As I follow him over a bridge, V1 chirps again, indicating two radars ahead. The truck continues to pull away while I keep to 40 and scan the darkness for the two gunners. I see the first one just as the truck goes past him. Naturally the red-and-blues come on and the truck is a goner. That should have been me! But it gets better. As I pass the bust, the rear arrow lights up but the ahead arrow stays on. One still ahead. Then V1 chirps again—two ahead. Knowing that, I maintain 40 up the next hill. At the top, there they are, two more enforcers serving as witnesses to my innocence. At that point I thought to myself, "Geez! If I didn't have the arrows, I would have sped up and gotten nailed coming over the hill." And the opportunities kept coming up all the way through town, seven radar units in all. At the last one, a small voice came from the backseat, "Wow! You've got to get a Valentine for mom!" Hmmm, Mother's Day is coming up. Devin Foley Apple Valley, MN ^^^"been there did that"...cannot recommend this enough. |

Lastly, state troopers are the worst to get caught by because they're the strictest and less likely to give you a warning especially in a sporty little coupe. |

Look if you're going to speed, to be safe, always wait until you see a police officer already engaged on another vehicle or pulled over issuing a citation.
That way as you fly by going 100+mph and giving them the finger chances are good that they cannot/will not pursue you. |

Personally, I still run my radar detector even though I usually keep my speed within 10 over and run little risk of getting pulled over. I like having the situational awareness of knowing when I was hit, where the cop is sitting and what is going on around me at the time. I have been mistakenly pulled over in the past when I was most definitely not speeding, which is what prompted me to start using a radar detector in the first place.
You have the right in most states to employ measures to know when you are under electronic surveillance. A cop has no business assuming you are speeding just because you are exercising that right by using a radar detector. |

Beltronics over here. I'm not a "speeder" by the common understanding but it lets me know when I'm driving through heavily patrolled areas and you never know when you're passing by an officer who loves writing tickets for 5-over. (there's lots of those here).
We also have school-zones and intersections with photo-radar and it detects those so I'm not getting a tickets-by-mail by doing 2 over in a school zone. The majority of speeding tickets that cops write are not for people who "deliberately" breaking the law.. keep that in mind. There's nothing morally or ethically wrong having a device in your car that lets you know when the law is watching/tracking/monitoring you. If it's legal in your state, it's definitely a right I think should be exercised.
