I got the Phantom ESC today and installed it after work. The ESC was staring at me all day!
Took about 1 hour and 45 minutes, with a buddy as a second set of hands. The hardest part was drilling out the rivets (never done it before, took about 10 minutes before I figured out how to pop the heads out) and screwing in the controller. It was so tight against the fuse box that I had difficulty reaching underneath to put on the nut. I didn't even try to put a washer in there. I also dropped the screw for the controller into the skid pan underneath, so I had to go into my apartment and bring out the floorjack. If I had to do it again, it'll probably only take an hour. Initial thoughts: It didn't wow me as much as I thought it would. Maybe because I expected a huge wow factor from all the praise its been getting. It did pull significantly harder. I can feel myself against the seat (slightly). I also didn't really feel the dip, so that's good.! I've only did several pulls and I was tired, so my initial thoughts may changed after I test it out some more. I know that the batteries also take some time to be conditioned, so I'll report back my experience in a week or so. Here is a night shot after my pulls. It got dark quick! ![]() I'll post up better pics during the day once I get my engine bay cleaned and the wires nicely tucked. Also, I did an initial data log with the OFT. It seems good to me, but if someone more knowledgeable can take a look at it, it'll be much appreciated. The last three pulls were in third gear, with the last pull going into fourth after redlining. With all these channels, which 12 channels are you OFT guys logging? http://datazap.me/u/tm/esc-first-run-3rd-gear-pulls aFe Drop-in Filter / TRD catback exhaust / Phantom ESC / OFT OTS ESC tune on 93 octane gas Can't wait until the e85 ESC tune gets released!

Good to hear your thoughts TM. These batteries need to be conditioned before you will get max boost. It can take up to a week before they are really dumping current.
Stick with it and keep going WOT it is only going to get better ![]() Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk |

This was probably just me but i didn't connect the two dump batteries using the brass fitting. Took it out for a drive without that and was pretty underwhelmed. After installing that brass connector it made significantly more power.

@l0aded
Both WRB5titch and I are local to you. If you want to check out the install on a couple of cars, go for a ride, or have questions, I know I'm more than happy to meet for coffee or at the Tuesday Irvine meet. PM me. |

Haha, I'm pretty sure I have them connected. Wouldn't that be an open circuit? How was the compressor still able to drain the dump batteries?

Tried searching this massive thread, but, what do you think about fitting the OE battery with 1.5 dump pack in a bigger tray? I don't know how much more tray you could fit in the bay before it hits something else though....

You would certainly save weight by going with the smaller, lighter starter battery over the OE one.

@TM
Another +1 for conditioning the batteries. They need a little time and will pull harder over the upcoming week. I'm easily pulling mid 5's right now with a good launch. However the real difference for me is how hard the car pulls in 3rd/4th gear and how useable 5th is. Heck I can even pass in 6th now non-aggressively (whereas 6th was purely for cruising before). Drop from 6th to 4th and the car is as fast as it sounds now. Also, I know you're in NY but it still needs to be said. Get the best gas you can get. In CA I've found that our lower octane CA91 can scrub the edge off the feeling of performance. I added 11oz of Torco Acellerator to bring the octane up to 93-94ish and the car is running BEAUTFIULLY now (IAM rock solid 1.0 on Shiv's P-ESC tune). So make sure you're getting the best gas you can. |

So you're saying the two primary dump batts + 2x 1.5 packs + Stock batt? Not sure this would fit in the space, also that would add about 23-25lbs to the standard Phantom 1.5 setup. The compact starter is cheap, works great in any weather, and worth every penny. |

@robwbright @DAEMANO
Yeah was thinking may as well use my OE battery for the next couple years since it's still in good condition. I have the A/T with the Panasonic 500CCA OE battery. My main concern would be that my car is punished in the winter sitting outside its entire life but driven weekly in -30 C weather. Last thing I want is my GF stranded and her cranking away. Would need to look for an equally as decent CCA/manufacturer with a smaller footprint then. Weight wise not really that concerned on 20+ lbs |
