In Florida the prime car jacking targets were tourists with Canuck plates because the goblins new if they targeted a local - they might get shot.
They knew Canadians had no guns. The frequency of tourist victims was so great that the state government offered temporary Florida plates to Canadian cars.

Also - Canadians were allowed to get a Florida drivers licence with a local address (ie.- share plan condo, trailer park home etc.).
With the drivers licence they could get a carry permit.

Your answer - any police officer can tell you - criminals prefer easy victims, not victims able to defend themselves.

People in areas of armed citizenry are VERY polite to each other.

I find it funny when a person tells me that if guns were illegal there would be no gun crime. I am fairly certain that criminals do not care about law and will still carry guns, they are criminals. My wife carries because she works in an area of our city that is known for so called gang crime, Id rather her shoot some hood in the face rather than me get a call about her raped or dead.

just remind them of chicago.. guns are nearly illegal here.. of course not officially, but they make it very difficult to get any of the required documents, yet crime keeps rising regardless.

The solution is a good holster. I carry a commander sized 1911 daily in a crossbreed supertuck deluxe holster. I have zero comfort issues, my only issue is it is not really easily accessible. I think the answer to your question and mine is to get the center armrest and mount a kydex holster inside.

OP, you may have to carry something smaller. Glock 27 works nicely.

Some Europeans about this explanation might continue to deplore US environment about this way, culture.
I think that all people willing to see USA with European lens (glasses) are wrong. Development of USA has historical basis and geography (wide wild west) that support this way to arrange the personal defense.
I was in Florida when non FL car plated were a better goal. I remember a honest bodyguard that told me: "away from the other side of the road, its sure only with gun...." I say ever....if you have fork on hand it doesn't mean that you are willing to eat....so the same for gun...but I am a strange european....

So, lockable safe keeping would be attaching it to the mount in the trunk underneath the liner. Not accessible but not a common place for thieves to look because cheap as shit spare tire.

For easy access I vote: heavily modified kydex holster in the JDM armrest/center console storage. That way it goes right off your hip and into the center console (not visible from outside the car. To get the gun in a S.H.F. scenario just open it draw with full grip, eliminate issue, reload with spare mag kept in console, and reholster on your person wait for police to arrive or get the hell out of there while calling the cops and telling them you are leaving the scene in fear of being engaged by attackers friends.

There is no locking location inside the car. You could modify the knee pads on the center console on a hinge to open so you can store your gun in there (use magnets to hold it shut). But I think the armrest idea is the most solid for temporary or driving storage.

I carry a Glock 19 Gen 4 like you, I am a big fan of kydex does not mar the finish (but my glock is not a safe queen by any standards). Due to frame size I carry in a shoulder rig which is good enough for driving and with a light dress shirt I can draw seated. But for temp storage when visiting the post office I just throw it in the glove box for the few minutes I am in there. When I get the armrest I am going to do the center console mod so I can carry with a hip holster without messing up the leather seats or my back.

Now, if you work a job that does not allow concealed carry inside (as most do not) like myself. the only real option is to lock it in the trunk if you are away from the car for extended periods. Or you can make a hide hole behind the knee pads. not lockable but if you make it hard to find it would work out.

if you figure out the hide hole idea...you let me know okay? Us gun guys/gals need to stick together.

My 2 cents on self defense:
If someone attacks you...and wants to harm you, your family and/or your property...even if it is just at random. Do you want to engage hand to hand with a stronger opponent or multiple opponents when you can draw and deal with it at a distance (not necessarily lethal intent).

Don't get me wrong, different strokes for different folks...some of my friends hate the idea, can not afford or do not want the responsibility of carrying a firearm. But they augment their own strength with either a knife, pepperspray, tazer, or one of those self defense tools that go on their keys. Some of my friends live hoping a situation where being better armed is not needed. Moral of the story is people defend themselves as responsibly as they can legally, or as well as they mentally can, and all forms should be supported.

Also, I am a much more understanding person when I have my firearm on me. Gun owners in general are better people than most of the people you interact with on regular basis. If you took the time, fill out the stupid amount of paperwork, and spend all that damn money to acquire a concealed carry weapons permit...you will act in a manner that would not cause you to loose it. You do not get road rage, you do not get in domestic disturbances, you do not start fights, you do not like getting pulled over, you back down from confrontation, and above all you never want to draw your firearm unless you are home putting it on your bedside table.

Not yet but the idea came after I had bought a Comptac minotaur MTAC holster for my M&P45 4.5in(the largest frame automatic I have). This plan was hatched when I test fitted my M&Psheild, glock 19, and ruger LCP. The retention of each firearm was good enough and for each one the trigger guard was completely covered. So, it would be safe enough to have in the compartment.

So today, I ordered a left and right hand kydex bodies from comptac for the M&P45. The body fits pretty flush with the current center console...I am hoping that the armrest(I have not purchased yet) gives the additional space to fit the full frame.

The plan is to modify the left and right side's of the bodies so that with the thinnest firearm the notch under the trigger guards butt up against one another, then spring load it so it can accommodate larger frame firearms.

I guess if I am successful I will have to add this to the list of DIY's I need to do.
