I'm supposed to take delivery of my FR-S this weekend. The first thing I'm going to do is fold down the back seats, and probably never pop 'em back up. So the thought occurs that maybe there are others like me who see them as a complete waste of space and weight. I could just take them out, but I'm not so fond of having a big, empty, useless hole where they used to be.
Is there any way to, say, retain the carpeted panel on the back side of the seats while getting rid of the upholstery and foam and seat frames? Has anyone tried to fabricates some sort of hinged replacement panel that would still give you the storage deck provided by the folded-down seats, while getting rid of the unneeded weight and bulk of the seats themselves? Heck, it could actually give you a nice, hidden storage space underneath, where the seats used to be... |

There are seat delete kits already out. That's probably what you're looking for.

If you are referring to this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ar+seat+delete
then that is not what is being asked for? OP - I don't use my rear seats and am looking for pretty much exactly what you are - getting rid of the seats, having a little hidden storage where they are, but still keeping the nice flat area in the back. Did you have any further luck on this? Thanks |

This is the most elegant, least ricey commercial solution I've seen so far:
http://www.rearseatdelete.com/FRS-BRZ.html Unfortunately it's $340. There was a whole thread on this subject a while back. Oh, found it: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12512 Some people bought commercial solutions. A couple of people made their own. A few others just removed the seats outright and replaced them with stiffening braces. Look through that thread and see if you get any bright ideas. Quote:

The only thing heavy back there is the seatbelts themselves.
