ST Coilovers

Hey guys. I'm just wondering if anyone here is running ST coilovers all year round. Specifically people in areas that see a cold snowy winter (i.e. tri state area). I know that because of there galvanized steel, they're much more prone to rust. Anyone have any serious issues with rust or seizing?

from what ive seen, the VW guys that have been running ST for a few years havent really had any issues(in the colder areas)

As with any coilover, be sure to wipe down the threads when you rotate tires and such.

But bump for someone with direct experience with this!

Had my ST coilovers installed during the snowy/cold as f**k winter here in VA and never had any issues. Only had them on for about two-three months now. Still going strong and settled in pretty well.

Was reading somewhere that you could spray them with some Amsoil sealant to keep them from rusting

Did you put any protective coating on them?

I'm thinking of getting the ST coilovers too but live in salt city(Toronto, Canada). I don't mind rust proofing it every season since I switch tires every winter season. Would I need to take the whole coil over apart or can I just spray it down with rust check or corrosion free?

Here are more mods on my build thread HERE.

It uses Denier, a polyurethane coated nylon material and is stitched with Velcro and 1/4" shock cord. It's washable, waterproof and mold resistant.

Besides the sewing machine, the materials I used were:

1 Yard of Black 200 Denier
3' Hook and Loop Velcro
3' Shock Cord
Spool of Black Polyurethane Thread

Thanks for checking it out!!

Here are the pictures...

This is why I did the covers.

Taking the top, bottom and height measurements.

Marking the material with the measurements. I angled the bottom to fit the bottom of the coilover tighter. I also added 2" to each dimension so I can fold over and sew all the ends.

Sewing all four corners over.

Once all four sizes were folded and sewn, then I measured where the Velcro should go.

Added the Velcro to the closing seams.

The shock cord was slipped into the top and bottom edges to create an elastic seal and to hold the cover tight on the top and bottom.

Shock cord holding the bottom down.

Nice, tight and now protected.
