Only enthusiast like us know about the 86 and i bet/know most wouldn't even know the 86 has been remade or redesigned or the fact the 86 is about to hit the market. Advertising closer to the release date will help spread the word but us as enthusiast are a minority group and most likely account for roughly 10% at best market share. Definitely not enough to hope for a low sale price. |

As for the Holden bailout, GM gave them $1 billion and the Government gave them something like $275 million. From that they can continue to build cars for the next 10 years meaning two new Commonwhore models

Mazda 3 sold out Every car if I remember correctly it was the best selling car period
Veloster turbo at 35k (from the article, sounds like a stab in the dark) is coming in July, around the same time as the 86 and might decimate it if toyota over charges. Generaly people don't care about fwd vs rwd, so Toyota might dig them selfs a grave. The 3rd door is so that the driver doesn't have to get out to let passangers out I guess. Looks funky. Hyundai did well with their new designs. The i45 looks amazing if to ask me and if I was after a family car I'd prob buy it over the Camry or aurion

Have test driven the Veloster in comparison to a Mazda3. Felt it was pretty much superior in every way except for visibility (blind spots).

As per Toyota sales plan
2012 - 1500 units 2013 - 1800 units 2014 - 1200 units FWIW Porsche move about 1200 Cayenne units a year. I don't think Toyota is going to struggle to move those even at $50K |

Judging from other cars in the australian market there is no way the 86 will be priced under 35, and if they are only making 200 units of the BRZ + better resale with Subaru I can see the BRZ going for 40+
so if subaru can do it I cant see why toyota wont charge similar. |

It's quite apparent to me that value is currently "consumer defined" as there is really no direct comparison in the Australian market.
And for the pricing, Australians continually look at the US & JP pricing and become frustrated... and that is understandably so. |

And that's what we've set our limit for the high grade to also!
Thats not because of affordability or perception of value... More of a personal choice, we're renovating right now and that's more important! ![]() Plus our contract promised $38K + ORC, Based on those facts I think I am being reasonable here. |

Even 45 really for top drive away is pushing it
And you cannot compare this car to a cayenne. The resale value of this will depend more on the car itself, how it ages, how it's viewed by the public than anything else. Rx8 didn't hold it's value, Mazda overpriced it heaps here, I would have never bought a new rx8. My one was in immaculate condition, and I payed 20k for it drive away in 2010 for a 2005 model

I think they will struggle, looking at what 50K will buy even a 20yr (brought it in 1992) 86 enthusiast like me i start to say hang on a minute. All of a sudden other cars start to look real good.

Perhaps Toyota kind of failed in saying the 86 will be an affordable sports car. Affordable is different in anyone's book but Toyota not saying we are aiming the 86 to be just as good as the S2000 (for arguments sake), it opens the world up to all sorts of thinking which is were we stand today.
Had Toyota stated affordable sports car = to or better then S2000 (for example or insert your own choice) all of a sudden affordable sports car takes on a whole different meaning 2-3yrs ago, and for us Aussie 40k sounds better. We have nothing to judge against except for our own choices. Affordable sport car with a very low COG is about all i remember Toyota saying. Maybe i need to revisit some old reports. |

which would obviously effect Toyota's decision since 86/BRZ are pretty much identical. |
