I wouldn't say the car has so many issues--it just has some quirks. It's not like these cars (stock) are regularly blowing up and stranding people--they just tend to be weirdly noisy. The only potential for catastrophic failure was the CEL/idle dip if you didn't get it corrected, and that seems to be fixed now with a new ECU flash. I researched this very carefully because I am actually one of the few people whose BRZ DID blow up and strand her, and I wanted to feel secure before I bought another one.
That being said, if the noises are bothering you now, don't buy the car--they will make you nuts in a few months. |

Should be done by the dealer I believe for the VINs that were affected. I did not have this issue though so not sure.

If you come from regular cars, like a Lancer, Camry, Mazda 3, etc, yeah, it`s not going to be as pleasant on bumpy streets. But I find it to be very reasonable for such a sporty car. Rides so much smoother then my 2004 Silverado regular cab long box.
I`ve also went on vacation for a week with it. 7h drive to get there. Felt great. Felt like I got out of drive around the street. Was really surprised. It is pretty noisy. Road noise can be a bit annoying. You can really tell when the pavement is bad. The crickets when you`re in the drive true . It annoys some so much that they would sell the car... I don`t care at all. My Spec-V Sentra had very loud injectors too and it never bothered me either. The transmission I got used to it too. When I leave I give it a try to see if it goes in. If I shift quick enough, it goes in, but if not, I grab 3rd and after a few miles, 2nd is usable again. I still have the original oil. Going to change it soon. It a quirky car, but if it`s things you can live with, it`s a great car I find. I`m sure the Camaro forums guys are also saying the same about the Camaro too though . All cars will have plus and minuses. It`s weighing which pluses are more important to you, and which minus you can sacrifice and live with the most.

Every car has issues when you pick it apart in minute detail as is done here regularly.
I've been completely satisfied with mine after a full year post purchase. The fuel pump is a non-issue. It's only a normal engine sound if running on ethanol supplemented fuel. If you have the option of non-E gas in your area, go with that. Out here there are no convenient non-E locations, so I live with it, and it's doing fine. Sort of like the old air cooled VW bugs. They have a distinct engine sound at idle and that's all there is to it.

I'm picking up a 2014 Camaro tomorrow. I'm going to hold on to it until Toyota/Subaru gets this car sorted out. I've watched YouTube videos, read stories about people bringing this car to the dealer for the fuel pump, tail light, ECU, and who knows what else. I can't do this right now, I would be too pissed. You guys have an awesome car. It rides better than the Camaro or Mustang, but I can't deal with the reliability issues.
If someone is buying one you can get a black 2013 From Westchester Toyota in Yonkers NY with the "crickets" for 22k as well as a silver one at New Holland Toyota for the same price, that sounded even worse. Thanks guys. I give you credit for overlooking this stuff. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jsAmUjOZ76k"]Scion frs engine noise - YouTube[/ame] Just isn't right... Enjoy the new car! I'm sure I'd enjoy driving a Camaro. I briefly considered it (I do like the green), but it's just too large and heavy for what I was looking for.
However, I think it's odd that you consider "fuel pump, tail light, ECU, and who knows what else" as reliability issues. Annoyances, yes. But an odd sound from an injector that functions fine in the vast majority of cars is not a reliability issue. The ECU issue has apparently been resolved in the late 2013 and thereafter models. The tail lights are hit/miss, but are a common problem with many new car designs and can be resolved without going to the dealer if a person wants to do it. As far as "who knows what else", there's the BRZ GPS sometimes not connecting, but that, again, is not really a reliability issue. Oops. Appears the Camaro also has issues... The point of this is to show that even cars that are in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of design still have issues. http://www.chevroletproblems.com/tsbs/Camaro/2014/ "WHEN MAKING LOW SPEED TURNS THERE MAY BE A CHATTER NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A SLIP/STICK OF THE CLUTCH PLATES. THE 2010-2014 CAMARO EXCLUDING ZL1. *RM UPDATED 07/31/2013 *JS" http://www.iseecars.com/car-problems...amaro-problems 2014 CHEVROLET CAMARO Technical Service Bulletin 2013/04/01 NHTSA #: 10052046 Service Bulletin #: PIC-5515C SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:ANTILOCK:WHEEL SPEED SENSOR: GM: SOME VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A RATCHET, GRIND, OR ABS PUMP MOTOR NOISES AT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. *JS http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=340113 "I purchased my 2014 V6 Camaro a couple months ago with 18 miles on it. A couple days of driving around, I noticed that the A/C would blow warm as well as cold, this being my 10th car and 6th new purchase, I knew the A/C should not be blowing warm, even under hard acceleration, but with that few miles I was only going up to about 3000 rpms until "broken in". I took the vehicle in to my local Chevrolet Dealership and they informed me that the system was overcharged, so they fixed that problem. Next around 1800 miles, I got into the car, defrosted the windows, and then turned the A/C on, well nothing happened, system said it was off and it would not turn on no matter which function I chose, so off to the dealership again, they witnessed the issue and took the vehicle in, but once the vehicle was turned off and turned back on it fixed itself, they still kept it half a day to see if they could find anything wrong with the system, but still nothing found. Not at about 2700 miles that same thing happened again, but I did not take it in this time, I restarted the car and it worked fine. Has anyone else had this issue with their Camaro? If so was there a direct fix or did you have to wait until it went out?" "I am having the same issue with my 2014 SS! Taken it to the dealership twice and they continue to tell me nothing is wrong. If i get any further information i'll post it. Please keep us updated. Good Luck." That said, you're probably a better candidate for the Camaro... but don't be shocked if you run into an issue or two. They're machines with lots of moving parts and electronics. Frankly, it's amazing to me that cars do as well as they do.

The noise from the engine would drive me up a wall, I couldn't deal with it.
I'm hoping the Camaro is oaky. It's nice, white, black interior, manual, orange racing stripes, it moves. If you want a reliable car, get a Prius. Seriously. I have 322k miles and you can't break the car. I'm forever going to have one of those cars to commute with unless something better comes along. When the FRS has been out a few model years and there are no more "crickets" then I'm game. It's an awesome car, drives better than what's out there, and is a load of fun. I'm taking the Chevy bet vs the Scion bet for issues. It seems I would have guaranteed "cricket" issues. |

That and some other gremlins got me to sell that thing. Good luck with the General! Not me. I couldn't depend on the heat or the defroster. Learned my lesson. Not a slow learner. You would think the bugs were gone by now. |

Something is off, smells fishy The chirping is a quirk, not an "issue". It doesn't affect performance/reliability what so ever. |
