We've been debating handling for months and took a couple weeks off to debate 0-60mph times. Big deal.

It was at least interesting to note that midsize cars are in the 6's with 100 more HP than the twins. And minivans are not faster than midsize cars, they have the same engines in them.

It's not the 0-60 time that matters, that depends on gearing. It's the acceleration in the lower gears that determines the "shove into your seat". 0-60 is not a good benchmark of how fast a car accelerates because gearing changes things a lot. I'd say 1/4 / 1/8 mile is marginally better, best is peak acceleration in each gear.

At higher speeds the acceleration is lower anyways, you probably need more power to get a real "shove into your seat" if I'm understanding you correctly.
I agree with what you're saying so I must be bumbling whatever statement I was trying to convey in the last post.

More like 60-70, but who's counting?

0-62. That's as high as I'll go.

Despite the unimpressive numbers on paper, MT's own subjective review writes:
Quote:
And the BRZ is undeniably superb. For the money, its grin-getting straight-line quickness, 22/30 mpg city/highway fuel economy (25/34 with the six-speed automatic), seemingly extrasensory chassis response, seven-airbag passive safety suite, and straightforward, aesthetically pleasing cabin -- offering nearly as much front headroom as the 4.4-inch-taller Honda Civic Si and enough cargo room with the rear seats folded to swallow a toolbox, a helmet, and a full set of wheels/tires -- make Subaru's most creative creation a force to be reckoned with. Sure, it's not the quickest car in its class and it has a few faults (cramped backseat, ho-hum 17-inch wheels, and the Scion will be cheaper). But for pure, unadulterated driving delight, the BRZ packs a knockout punch.

Summary, what the designers said all along, better than the sum of its parts.

I should add that I'm not at all surprised by the "unimpressive" numbers. I hardly expected a 200 hp/151 lb-ft car to have great acceleration numbers. And I don't expect any car with Prius tires to score well in any handling/braking tests. (This begs the question, Which tires were on the Mustang? The 255/40R19 summer-only tires from the Performance Pack?) There's no doubt that for performance numbers, if that is important to you, the V6 Mustang is the best bang for your buck. At least for now.

And that's why the "other" Mustang MT tested braked in the 120 ft range, same as the BRZ. A 16 ft difference.

The Miata Grand Touring has summer tires too.

Just to get things clear, the BRZ has summer tires, but they're not max performance, they're touring.

I'm having trouble identifying the tire brand and name. Do you know it?
