You should disconnect the main red connector first, then bolt on the copper bar...then reconnect the red connector.

If the red connector was connected during the bolting of the copper bar, then yes you will get a spark, it is the Caps charging.

Instruction are done in order for a smooth install.

Now i'm completely installed and had my first drive I thought I'd share my first impressions.

Install
  1. Took me just under 3 hours, although I'm pretty mechanically inept. Now i've done it once pretty sure i could do it again in about an hour.
  2. The install is super easy and trouble free if you follow the instructions
  3. Hardest part was bringing harness/wiring through the firewall and setting up throttle switch
  4. Easiest part was tuning, used OFT + Shiv's Phantom SC tune.
  5. Need to spend some time organising cables and tying them down
  6. Make sure you follow the instructions

Super Pursuit Mode via switch next to center console

Using sound tube ties to keep wires away from over pipe

Initial driving impressions
  1. Wow, I can't describe the difference this makes. I must've been giggling like a little girl for the first 30mins of my initial drive, with various "OH S**T!" moments as i hit boost.
  2. Learned NOT to activate mid-corner, lots and lots of oversteer (which is fun)
  3. There's a little lag between activating the pedal switch and hitting boost. Suspect tweaking the throttle switch to activate at maybe 70% could help.
  4. Coming from a stock tune there's numerous improvements in Shiv's map that improve general drivability. Car just feels generally happier/smoother.
  5. 2nd gear pulls from 2K RPM are awesome, hitting what feels like peak boost between 3-4K. 5k+ you do feel the torque drop off a little.
  6. Heat. I tripped the fail safe twice. I need to fix this.
  7. I like the fact this kit removes the sound tube, reduces cabin noise/drone.

Props to Rob and everyone that were involved in developing the Phantom SC, its a complete no brainer for the price and install time. Purchasing this was probably the best decision I've ever made.

Expect another update next week once batteries have broken in and I've had some dyno time

Three things. You may want to route all your cables to the passenger side of your car. There are multiple points to zip tie your stuff. Like this:

Size: 265.2 KB

Next since you tripped the fail safe. How much stuff do you have around your controller?

Also zip tie the drag reduction tube to the cables and off any thing that heats up.

@Robftss,

If we add ducting to pull air from the front of the car and point it at the controller would this lower the occurrence of the fail safe tripping?

Pretty sure that is for the aux charger if you wanted to add it.

It doubles the recharge rate.

It's great to see more and more people getting and enjoying their Phantom ESC kit. Rob has really done a fantastic job with it and we are just happy to help out what little we can

Is the rubber tube connected to the controller? This is for the sensor for the drag reduction. You'll want this connected.

And as mentioned above; reroute the cables/wires to the passenger side and zip-tie them together. No harm in getting some wire loom to encase the entire bundle.

How's the noise? Hopefully the esc is not too loud when spooling.

Not loud at all. More like a whoosh.

I wonder if an aftercooler would help the esc and would there be plans to test such a system in the future

No. This thing produces low boost and does not have a hot turbine driving it.
