It would also cost STI money which I doubt I'm willing to pay for a BRZ anyways.

Then again I want the car for exactly what it is, not because of some numbers printed on a sheet of paper.

but.......

The STI version needs to be the 280 HP turbo 2.0 liter flat 4 car. The STI version will be at least $5k more in price...probably more. Would you not want more power? 80 HP more is not a lot of power. It's just about right for the people who want more power. If you think this is way too much power then you can always opt for the BRZ premium or limited.

Mark my words, there will be a turbo in this car, and there will also be a roadster (probably FR-S\86 only). There is not too much comparison with the MX-5 for them not to do it.

They might go supercharged but they supposedly already developed a 2.0 liter turbo motor at 275 to 280 HP for the next WRX.

If they don't put it in the BRZ STI, then somebody will drop that engine into the BRZ...

Glad to see this forum picked up on another "la-la-la i can't hear you" line, "number-paper racer". We're enthusiasts too, and we like the car for what it is, but want more from it. So make the STI model for us, leave the plain jane for the others that don't "need" the power. And everyone's happy then, not just one side.
I get what you saying about tracking the BRZ, and I think in your case i agree that the EVO would better serve you as a track car.

My perspective is as a motorcyclist. I think most cars are boring as hell. I currently drive a 2009 TL SH-AWD ( ), and am looking for something entertaining on four wheels for those day when I have to drive. I also live in the DC-Metro area, and soul-sucking traffic is a way of life. IMO, the only thing worse than sitting in traffic is sitting in traffic in a 350+ hp car. Talk about having an elephant gun with no elephants! I see the BRZ as an honest, inexpensive, fun car that I can enjoy in my area. That doesn't mean I don't get your POV, though.

BTW: Your second paragraph was ROFLTastic! I read it as: I want a BRZ with more power, and my opinion counts, damnit!

It seems you and I are in, basically, the exact same situation. We even drive the same cars.

I want 20hp, 20lb.ft of torque and 600rpm more. I don't really care about FI.

what's funny is that most of you probably couldn't even handle driving a car of this size and weight with more power than what it already has. not some prediction, but factual. do a search on any other related car forum or on youtube and see how many guys haven't trashed their blown S2K's.

This is a pretty low blow, I'm pretty sure there's plenty of people like myself that have driven some pretty crazy cars. Pretty confident I'll do alright in a 200 hp car.

I wouldn't say "most", but "some". Toyota/Subaru are not new in making a performance car, not to mention this car is not a "power" performance car. WRX STI is softer than Evo X for everyday driving. They know how to make a performance car for regular people, not just a track driver.
In S2K's case, it's too pure for today standard. BRZ/FR-S has ABS, Traction control and it also has "comfort" summer tires on all corners.

I think it'll be a while before an exhaust turbine gets into this car because a turbocharger makes transient response much worse, and that goes against the philosophy of the car. I can see maybe like 1000 more rpm, which would bring in an extra 30hp or something.

Supercharger could happen although Subaru has never done that to the best of my knowledge? However an electrically powered supercharger or variable drive supercharger would work great for the car as it would have good response, so the "electric turbo" that's being developed could work very well on this car, but that's a long way off in the future.

This review has so many gushing compliments that it's hard to choose one passage to sum it up, but this seems appropriate:

I was actually spotted shaking my head in disbelief while talking one-on-one with the BRZ's senior project manager, Toshio Masuda, following the drive. I felt as though I'd just driven a Porsche Cayman at less than half the price.

No it wouldn't. You could do your own EJ257 swap for what, $6-7k. I am fairly confident that you could do a BRZ premium + swap <$35k (obviously bye bye warranty). Should be able to get 300hp at least from that. However, I would prefer the EJ207.

Not trying to be a jerk. Just saying with everyone complaining about this car being down on power I'm sure there are some who'd end up biting off more than than they could chew. That's with any car, but an argument for the curre t setup being fine for what it is.
