16" wheels thread

16" wheels are very underrated, they should have their own thread, 15" are welcomed too, please post them here.

I was tempted to get 16's for weight and money savings on the wheels and tires, but everyone I asked about it told me not to do it. I'll keep an eye on this thread though, to see what they look like at least.

Did they tell you why not to do it? I have no problems with mine, tires are cheaper, the Volks weight 11.2lbs a piece compared to stock which is a significant difference.

A friend told me they were just too small. Some of the people here said they didn't like the look of 16's and that other sizes looked better, or that it wasn't necessary to downsize unless you were racing or autocrossing. I forget if anything else was said.

Thats why all the serious show/street/looks cars have 18s or 19s. I was going to buy a pair of 15s for the drag strip, and if I had the money some 16s for the autocross. Of course if you are running FI 18s would probably workout.

Thank you for this post!! I am highly considering 16" wheels also, the tires are affordable and lighter, not to mention the weight savings of rims. "They" say that unsprung rotational mass is the best weight to lose, I would really like to see some light weight wheels in the 16". So far there aren't very many that I have seen. However, saving 8.9 lbs per rim per corner not to mention the potential tire weight loss is a fantastic upgrade (imho) for a na/stock set up. Lets see 9lbs per rim x 4 = 36lbs of unsprung weight, and potentially lighter tires also for a street care that rarely sees autocrossing. Sounds like the way to go for me. I forgot how much is a good light weight fly wheel?

Oh, yeah, you can "change" the gear ratio by lowering the tire size, thus changing how fast the vehicle accelerates. I have an automatic, so changing tire size (to a smaller height" can highly influence the acceleration rate of the vehicle, especially since I am driving hard from 1-3 gear only. However, when "changing" the gear ratio by lowering the tire size one should be highly cautious in a street car considering these cars are already low from the factory. Although race day is another thing. Losing weight is a good idea indeed! Look at the sacrifices people make to lose 15lbs or 25lbs. Changing rims and tires isn't that difficult. Since these cars aren't torque monsters this should be a real benefit. I only fill my car half way with gas now. BTW I have studied enough philosophy and culture to know when you challenge the status quo or cultural norms of society you may "get in trouble".
