I've talked to nelsmar a bit, but I still don't know what I want to do to get rid of my eventual CEL. So I will have Borla UEL headers, a Berk Track Pipe (muffler delete), and a drop in aFe dry filter. I care most about getting rid of the CEL, the sound, and having a tune that is easy to look past (for when I take it in for service), as well as reflashing back to OEM.
I don't care as much about getting the most performance from my setup, but would enjoy some gains. So should I order an OFT, ECUTEK, or something else? I briefly looked at Unichip, but wouldn't I get a CEL when I take it off to bring in the car for service? When I plan on getting the car serviced, I plan on taking the dry filter out, and putting my stock muffler back on, but leaving the Borla headers on. Any tips are greatly appreciated. I don't mind spending the $500 for the OFT if it isn't obvious to the dealer that it is there. |

Both ecutek and OFT would be equally indistinguishable by the service guys when taking your car in. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk

But thanks, I just need to decide between the two. I suppose I like the interface of the OFT more. From what I gather, I will need to find a map that matches my setup, with OFT? So it might be more newbie friendly? |

I also spoke with a couple of the techs in the past, and one thing that was nice to learn was that when they see modded parts on your car, they make it a point to not adjust anything around that piece of hardware. My example of this was V3 coilovers and alignment. They said because they noticed I had put hte struts on and modded ride height, they wont make any changes to the suspension or alignment itself. I was pleased to hear about this. I run ecutek, but have nothing bad to say about either them or OFT. Hope this helps in some way/shape/form! |

You really just need to give them a heads up/find a goodservice rep. I have had my in for an oil leak and I just let them know (repeatedly)to not touch the ECU or to wash my car. Hell the thing definitely smells likeE85 when it’s in for service, but they haven't said anything. |

OFT: --My dealer cost is below 500, ask Shad0ez or the others. --Reflashing to stock takes 5-7 minutes and the device can be kept in your glove box no worries about batteries etc. --EcuTek tune done by Nelsmar vs OFT yielded a difference of 3-4hp according to the dyno graph he posted. So power wise considering OFT is a tune for everyone and not custom your not leaving much of anything on the table. --Flat Foot Shifting & Launch Control are present but not by gear. --Maps are completely open to editing no lock outs. --You do not have Autoblip nor will it be an option. --Flex Fuel is also not planned --The issues of missing log channels has been corrected so you can log everything you need to. --You can Compare tunes to each other. --No Table Logging you have to use an outside program like Excel or possibly BRZEdit. EcuTek: --RaceRom gives you a lot more control including Flat Foot Shifting RPM control by gear, Autoblip, Flex Fuel, Custom Code that can allow you to control inputs and outputs etc. However this comes at a price tag of 300-399 on top of the Pro License Cost. (Nelsmar might be able to get you a better deal, I can't speak for him on that front) --There are no plans of giving the ability to compare tunes as you can in Rom Raider. This feature is a dealer only option. --There are no plans to give Pro/Race Rom users table logging you have to use outside programs like BRZEdit I believe was able to do so. --Race Rom supports 4 or 5 tunes stored that you can switch between easily using the cruise control lever. Its very simple. --To load tunes you have to have a laptop or table running Windows. You also have to have the dongle and cable with you at all times. --It loads tunes faster than OFT, considerably faster. --It is more widely supported by tuning shops although here in AZ there don't seem to be many actual shops. --There is a very likely chance that if a shop does your tune you will not be able to edit it. Tunes are often locked, as an example my turbo tune from Delicious is locked. --Logging is great outside of the absence of table logging, but again instead of having a device thats powered by the car and doesn't require a computer you have to have the Key, Windows Device and Cable to do so. I currently use EcuTek and have for some time now. I still fully Support OFT and for anyone not going FI its personally my recommendation. Its easier for most end users as you just plug it in and everything works in terms of loading a tune and you have the choice of E85 right out of the box. EcuTek goes further and has great options but again costs more depending on how deep you go. Cable + Pro will run you around 650 but again Nelsmar might get you a better deal just as I get a better deal on OFT's. But add in Race Rom and your up to 900+. You frankly do not need it for your goals. (To be clear here I'm saying you don't need Race Rom not EcuTek) Now on to the dealer, there is no proof that OFT does not leave a trace in the ECU. We know EcuTek does but there is no evidence OFT does or doesn't. Its speculated it doesn't because its not writing custom code to the ECU in the manor EcuTek does. But this has not been 100% proven the last time I checked so you need to accept no matter what they may be able to tell. With that in mind however my car went in a few times with full bolt on's and they KNEW it was tuned because I put a valet tune on it and they did not care. The Service Manager knows and still does not mind. The law is clear unless they prove it caused the issue your safe but some Dealerships will try to give you a harder time. With your car being a lease I think your safe with either but again OFT would be easier to switch around the corner from the dealership to stock if you a seriously concerned and don't want them to see a tune. It also will look like a stock tune file. Frankly neither is going to make you safer but the Dealer does not check unless there is a problem that requires it. Remember these guys are paid not by the hour but by what the book says and how they make good money is by doing it faster than the book says and taking the next job. They are not looking to catch you doing something they are looking to finish the job and move on as quickly as possible. Not once has the dealer checked my ECU and they actually refuse to do so for others who wanted the Rom Updates from the factory unless you had an issue. Hopefully this helps you. Oh and both will handle CEL codes such as the O2 code for the secondary O2.
