Guy is correct. Might as well schedule your car in every other month. There is NO fix for the crickets other than using ethanol free gas. Just read the last 3900+ posts.

If u run a tank of non ethanol premium through your car ever few tanks of gas u wont have crickets. I think I read on here somewhere as well that toybaru is no longer or is soon to be stopping warranty replacements on fuel pumps with crickets since other than a chirping noise they are working as intended.

I'm pretty much on the program now that I try to get ethanol free gas at the North Plains Chevron whenever possible, but since I am out and about quite often I fill up when i need to and generally have to settle on standard premium. I get enough fillups with non ethanol though by doing this that I have been able to avoid getting the chirps for at least a year now. I took a long road trip last summer and filled up 4 or 5 times and never got my crickets back, so for my car at least this system has been working.

Love your signature btw. So true.

Do your crickets appear after the car has been warmed up?

It seems like mine start coming out of the woodworks when the engine has been running for at least 20 min or so.

I have been running ethanol free since I got the car. Got up to 35,000km with no chirping but they just started occasionally last month. Recent posts bring up a good point about additives being the problem.

Whatever it is, Toyota/Subaru just fix it damn it

So I've done a few things to test this, just as many have.
I tried only using Shell, same station every time. This seemed to keep the chirps from being sooo loud. If I went to Mobile or Chevron, they would come back with a pretty high volume level.
I recently went to Hess, and the chip noise seemed to die down a bit, I think even more lower than with Shell gas.
There is a gas station near me that has 90 with no corn added, so I filled up to give it a test. I don't hear a thing now and it's really nice. Now, this brings up a question for everyone.

Will running 90 octane harm the engine? Here in FL we have 93, and that's all I've ever put in.
I'd love to hear some experts, or at least opinions on this. I would never run 87 as someone previous tried, but I wonder about 90. I think there are states that only have 91, so is 90 that much lower/worse?

I've read that switching to an e85 setup has eliminated crickets, can anyone confirm?

The cost of changing to a flex-fuel setup just to eliminate the crickets is ridiculous to me.

Nothing "eliminates" the crickets, either E0 or E85 is a different fuel formulation that makes the noise go away as long as you use that fuel. Only true "elimination" would be if the pump part that may be causing the chirps was actually replaced with something that didn't chirp when using E10.

I've been on ethanol free gas since day 1, but the heat brings out the crickets...

I also have this awful noise, even with fuel 98 Excellium from Total (best fuel available in France that I can find).

So with 98 octane, from a good manufacturer, sadly it doesn't change anything for me

Can someone check the part number on the HPFP on the new Forester XT and the new WRX 2015. If it's the same we should hear a lot of chirping going on unless they work at a lower pressure since they only have the DI to worry about. Just a thought.

Those use Subaru's DIT system, so they are different. We get Toyota's wonderfully loud DI system, which I believe is a Champion sourced HPFP. Could be wrong about brand.

Only fix is a new HPFP design, as three revisions haven't fixed this one.
