Max,

What were the temps at El Toro when you tried out the R1Rs? did you run them enough to find the cliff where they started to fall off? If so, how many runs did you get in and how much time did you have between them?

And just for clarification, you were testing and comparing a 235/40R17 R1R versus a 255/??R17 R-S3?>

Nice run, fast and smooth. It sure looked like you were hooked up, no slips, no slides. I'm still shoveling snow, so thanks for the race video.

Mid to high 60's for the temps. We did start watering after about 4 runs. We did a total of nine of runs on Saturday scrubbing them in. The first six were close together and the last three (the fastest) has about 20 minutes between runs.

Did an additional 4 runs on Sunday. 15 minutes between runs and no watering as they were not getting too hot.

And yes, 235/40/17 Toyo vs. 255/40/17 RS3.

Well the benefit of the 235 is it will spend twice as much time in the 'good stuff' range of tread

That's the theory, but your alignment needs to be setup to make sure you have enough camber. Luckily, we have local Toyo whizes, Jon Lugod and Jeff Wong, available to help make sure the car is wearing the Toyos evenly so that they will last.

I was running three year old Dunlop Z1s, which felt great in the heat, but they didn't like the cold. I really struggled in class competition with getting any heat in them. I won, but I was not happy with the times the car was running. I also found out afterwards that I forgot to take out the spare tire and tools from the trunk!

For the LCQ, I used some tire warmers and on my first run, the car was sketchy but not terrible. I put in a decent time, but for the second run I knew I would go much faster. I might of done that, but I forgot to turn off the traction control! I tried turning it off mid run, but that didn't work!

However, my first run was enough to squeak in the Challenge which ran in the afternoon. With the hotter weather, the tires came alive and I was running almost two seconds quicker than my class runs.

I won the bracket and made it to the final four, where I lost to Jeff Kiesel. With the Match Tour format using PAX, I really stood no chance if he stayed clean, which he did. I did win the 3rd place runoff against Shelly Monfort and I won around $300.

Here's my run from the final pair in the LCQ bracket, which moved me to the final four. With a one run shootout, you need to be clean, so I was trying to stay off the cones a little more than I normally do. I was thrilled to make it that far, and really happy that the car was doing such great times in its first big event.

LOOK REALLY FAST! Good job!!!

Hmm, surprised Max hasn't posted, cuz he pulled out a pretty spectacular win at the San Diego National Tour. 18 drivers including Bryan Heitkotter in the 300ZX (clearly still fine-tuning, but looking good doing it), Derek Punch, Mack and Justin Tsang, etc.

Congrats, Max, and to Annie Gill in the co-driver's seat, who threw down a great run early and made everyone else chase her She was third.

A pleasure to watch you both!
