Spring is here...
It's been a while since I've had any progress to post, but now that spring is here (although it supposed to snow tomorrow) it's back to some actual work on the car.
I've been inspired the past couple days and was motivated to put together my battery mount. I'm going with a 36V setup so I can't test both 24V and 36V hardware. My battery setup consists of four Odyssey PC680 SLA batteries (3 for the ESC and on for the start battery). I hand built the mount out of UHMW plastic and aluminum channel. Total material cost was a bout $30, and a lot of my time, but I'm very happy with the end result. It just fits in the stock battery location and it's very solid. ![]() ![]() My controller is also nearing completion. Depending on the weather for the next few days I may be testing this weekend.

LOL I was thinking the same thing. Some how that doesn't exactly scream quality engineering to me.

Exactly what I wanted to do - 36V system. Those batteries look awesome (and expensive). 680 amp pulse? Crazy
![]() Wonder how much boost this could make? ~50% more maybe assuming linearity? |

I seriously doubt I'll see anywhere near that much boost depending on what you mean by 50%. But I'm optimistic that it will have a healthy amount of boost. A lot of it will depend on the compressor and motor it's paired with and I have an assortment waiting to be tested.

Well once it's finished I will just have the ability to log the stock MAP sensor. I might temporarily connect a boost gauge. Of course that won't give me any ability log boost but it will let me know what sort of peak numbers I'm getting.

Stock map is good to 5 PSI. You should get a good idea of what is happening from that. My current TQ300 compressor makes just about 5psi at 1900rpm.

Quick update:
My project tonight was soldering up the circuit to modify the signals coming out of the Unichip. I'm using two duty cycle signals from the Unichip. One controls the supercharger motor the other turns the charging system on or off. Tomorrow if I have time I'll be testing it.

A quick update:
I finished all my electronics and did some testing. The charging and unichip control system are working great and I'm very happy with them. I did start testing the compressor on the car and initially it worked great. No numbers to report because I was having some issues with data logging. After a hand full of tests of the compressor my motor/compressor shaft coupling failed (slipped) allowing the compressor wheel to come into contact with the compressor housing. I haven't done a post mortum yet, but the damage looks minor. The coupling will need to be redesigned. I was trying to go with an easy to replicate system that required very little machining but clearly the forces involved are just too great for the design I used. Please keep that in mind for those of you thinking of designing various different geared systems. This is a lot of power being applied to a very compact package. I've been spending a lot of my free time working on this for the past couple of weeks. I think I'm going to put it aside for a little while while I rethink my compressor design. Right now I'm enjoying the car so much as it is now that the weather is getting nice again.
