If you still need help deciding between the quieter exhaust.....q300 is definetely quieter than perrin

I have Q300 and it almost sounds stock with a little rumble.....other times it sounds 90 percent stockish imo

My friend has perrin and my friends agree his overpowers my car when we rode near each other

Thanks! Do either of you have SC or turbo or the other three P&L parts? I learned that exhausts can sound quite different with FI and opened up headers, even stock. I ended up ordering Perrin but my build is still in progress so haven't heard it yet with P&L and SC. If it's too loud, I will buy Q300 and sell Perrin.

I wonder how many HPDE track days can either Perrin 2.5 resonated or Invidia Q300 take before the stuffing burns out and they become even louder.

@dp1 can't wait to hear impressions I'm looking for a similar setup but need a relatively mild setup around town... current options either q300 or just stock catback. Will have to hear q300 in person youtube vids aren't convincing.

I will post an update when I get the car. Someone told me that a stock muffler can sound quite different and raspy with open headers and more power...I have no experience with anything but stock so take it with a grain of salt. My P&L setup has 2 cats that should help quiet things down somewhat...and pass inspections

I don't mind louder than stock with a nice sound but not much louder...I live in a quiet neighborhood also the closest track has sound restrictions on most days.

I got the car and the Perrin 2.5" resonated exhaust is...well...not quiet with opened up P&L pipes (with two cats) but somehow bearable. I am a kind of person who loves to hear exhaust sound on WOT, and loves to not hear much of it when driving around town, since my car is primarily used on the street. This set up has a decent amount of drone right around 2-4k RPMs, so it gets a bit annoying around town. I have to live with it some more. Will try to find time to record the sound with GoPro.

Please PM me if you live near NYC and have a pretty new Invidia Q300 that my shop (@PrimeMotoring) could borrow for a quick sound test. If you're selling it and it works for me, I'll buy it...or we come up with a reasonable reward for your trouble

Well I just happened to pull off my Invidia N1 catback from my car and switched back to the stock cat back. I have been running the N1 with the P&L catted header, overpipe and catted front pipe. When switching my catback over to stock again, I switched the downpipe on my header back to catless (I have both catted and catless downpipes for my header).

Well, after I started the car I was waiting for the sound. Hmmmm is that my car? Sounds like a luxury car now! haha Yeah, I've been so used to driving around with loud ass drone that I forgot what my car sounds like stock. Well, with the full P&L exhaust (minus catback), my car sounds stock. Now on the highways I can cruise at 70mph without ear plugs. I can actually hear my music. No drone at all. I can also get on it without drawing any attention to anyone that is 4 blocks away.

The only thing I hate now is that lovely sound at wot is gone and the tiny tail pipes that are sucked into the bumper. I am now in incognito mode! I kinda like it, but I wouldn't mind something with a hair more grunt, but less drone. I thought maybe Perrin. Anyone have any experience with the Isis catback? I'm looking for more flow but quiet. I think the Isis did better than the resonated Perrin in certain dyno's (DSport mag test) and was quiet as well.

Does the stock catback restrict flow that much? I thought about keeping it and just adding some tips for the visual effect for the rear end.

Wow, this is really helpful, thanks! We were contemplating switching the exhaust from Perrin back to stock and leaving P&L parts in place...now I know we should try that. Too quiet is better than too loud for me, and I already have good-lookin' Perrin tips on my stock muffler.

If you do, let me know what you think of it because like I said, I've been running around with the N1 catback for well over a year. I'm used to the drone, going back to stock catback was like a wow factor. So if you are used to stock it might not seem like much, I dunno. I'd like your take on stock catback vs. Perrin. I just remember today I had the window down and cruising at 55 mph, looked down and noticed I was still in 4th gear. I was like... opps... shifted into 6th. I didn't even know...

I'm running the P&L catted header with a Tomei Ti front pipe (no cats) and the Perrin resonated 2.5" and it sounds pretty good to me. With the non-resonated pipe in the Perrin it sounded terrible, was full of rasp, and super loud but the resonated pipe changed all of that.

It's still decently loud but I haven't really noticed too much drone myself.

P&L Motorsports + (Perrin OR Invidia Q300 OR ?) = quieter?

Just installed q300 and prefer it to Perrin 2.5" resonated. Noticeably quieter on cold start and low RPMs. Posted more info in Q300TI vs Perrin thread. I was probably recommended Perrin because shop either didn't know what difference Q300 would make or because commission is better on Perrin. Both are very good exhausts IMO.

Have you guys heard anything about the resonated ARK exhausts (grip and dt-s)? I'm told they can be quiet too.

I'm using a TRD catback, and I feel that it drones under load between 2500-3500 RPMs - usually when pulling a hill on a freeway in 5-6 gears.

I too, am getting old and I'm looking for a quieter ride. :p
