Does anyone else not drive this car like a normal car?

All I mean is that most cars you just sit in and cruise and come to a stop and accelerate slowly and then creep to a corner make the turn and do it all over again.

...

No, I have (almost) never driven this car normally. I'm always in manual mode snooping out passing lanes just so I can drop 2-3 gears, waste some gas, and then do it again in another minute or 2. I accelerate towards corners (sometimes at stupid speeds). I blip the throttle (yes even in my automatic) under overpasses just to hear the exhaust roar. I really haven’t driven this car normally since I dropped the car and put some wheels on it. It will never feel average again. Does anyone else feel this way? Like, it’s impossible not to hoon around in this car constantly? I'm almost 25 and I feel like a teenager everytime I drive her, and I'm almost a whole year in! If I had forced induction, I know I'd never get rid of her. ever.

/positive rant

Agreed. I had a PT Cruiser before this and it was a drag to drive. Didn't care to. Whenever I get the chance to drive my FR-S I take it. It drives so much.. better. The fun is off the charts with the car. Go around a turn and accelerate. Hard to beat that feeling. The PT never had much oomph. This one does. And I never really see them around, making it all the more special in my brain.

If you want to push the car a little harder and keep it legal try auto x. Just did my first event and can't wait till the next one. This car was meant to do auto x. Can't remember the last time I had so much fun in a car. If you haven't done it already give it a try. I will warn you that daily driving and taking those corners won't seem as fun as they once were after auto cross.

i drive it like a normal car. im sure a lot of people do. its not really fast as far as street cars go and putting handling to good use is a lot more dangerous on the street than excess power imo. if you spend a significant amount of time at the track, you will realize how silly it is to drive around like a teenager on the street.

I've always driven everything I've owned pretty easy. There was an exception when I was in my early 20's and didn't know any better.
For me, this car is new and I drive it real easy. All my shifts are under 3k rpm and I've been watching the mpg creep up. Right now, the display reads 27.3.
Once it's broke in, I may punch it once in a while, but like my dad, with his old muscle cars, I will probably drive it easy 99% of the time and once in a while, smoke some guy who seems cocky.

It's not a normal car.

In the historic annals of motoring there will be a page for this car.
Doesn't matter if they stop production due to disappointing sales figures, or make a facelifted 250hp version some year up the road,
this car will be in the legends.

And I drive it the way it likes to be driven :-)

Trying to drive this car timidly is like trying to keep your pants on with (insert your favorite actress/model here) on a bed in front of you motioning you to "come hither"

I drive mine like it's stolen most of the time and I'm getting 28+ (hand-calculated; computer reads 29's)... I think you're doing something wrong

I'm the same way with MaddBaggins. My average mpg is 27.7 and has been creeping up slowly (Started with 26 mpg). We both bought our cars around the same time and our cars are still learning and breaking in. I drive it normally because of break down period but once I see a good corner I may speed up or use the speed I have to feel the handling of this car.

Why would you buy an FR-S if you were going to drive it like a "normal car"?

Oh, I still remember some things I did in a car that were more fun than autoX!

But yeah, autoX is great fun.
