3d scanning is a good way to go these days though, much faster and more precise. Plus you can get a super clean OEM look using CAD that is a real bear to do by hand. In fact, that's what I'm having done as well. lol
I will get in touch with you! thanks.

Paul, I'm fairly sure that their would be high pressure in the engine bay. Their is very little area for the air to escape once through the condenser and radiator. My thoughts are that the vents would work without a low pressure zone there.

just wanted to let you guys know that my automotive clay will be in my office tomorrow so I can do the clay process again this weekend. It shouldnt warp this time as automotive grade clay sets hard very quickly.

I want a functional side vent because im tired of the black plastic pieces on the BRZ, they fade and degrade with time, and trap water and possibly dirt between them, which could cause rusting on the front fender without you even knowing it!

I support this effort whole-heartedly. Get a kickstarter going on this. I really like your design and opportunity for it to be functional as a heat vent (even if it is quite marginal).

I assume you all have seen the Prova vent thread by RS which somone made them functional...

If not, http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33462

Also why not grab a spare set of brz vents and then cut them up and modify them to the design you want with the clay. That way you could save yourself a lot of work and just focus on the center design. This would also you to retain the 6-clip mounting.

Have you seen the cost of the Prova vents?! I'd like to see one that's designed from the start as an actual hot air vent.

I have, The OP will will easily have that cost in making the product and sending it into production/paint.

That wasn't my point though, my point was focused on the pictures showing behind the vent. Any outer exterior trim will have the same function as long as the grille allows air to pass though, the key will be what is behind the vent.

that is exactly the point. the prova one is definitely better than stock, but I`m going to make mine so that it has a tube going into the engine bay.

I don't doubt air flows over the faux vent that can cause a pressure differential to allow ventilation. Someone actually cut out the sheetmetal and TRD uses this same air for canards.

I think you will have to do some pretty trick stuff to make sure the 'hose' doesn't actually behave as a restriction. I'd imagine a remotely effective duct would require splicing out sheetmetal and even then might only equal that of a mere pressure differential w/o a duct. Can't say without simulations or testing. This isn't anything that can't be tested with a Gopro, magnet and some tassels both on the vent and inside the engine bay.
