The problem for aussies is that when they price that Turbo BRZ, it'll probably be around the 60k mark. for that kind of money, one could easily pick up a nice used 370Z or a list of other cars that are better.

If they do build a turbo, it will probably be priced about the same as a comparably equipped new Z here in the states. ~$34k? I know you can get a Z for we'll under sticker here as well so it might even be more expensive.

I don't think a 370z would have anything on a turbo brz though. In turbo guise I'm betting this engine will make a lot more torque so that should even out the power discrepancy and from an interior perspective the 2 cars are about equal. Plus the brz will give you 2 back seats for those times when you have to move a few extra people.

I'm not sure what other cars out there could even compete with a turbo brz at the same price range. You wouldn't have the straight line acceleration figures of a mustang but the weight and handling advantage would probably keep you competitive around most tracks.

To me a turbo would give the brz the balls to compete with other sports cars on the market from a performance standpoint instead of only being "more fun to drive".

When I get the BRZ, I will be replacing my M3, so I'm going to wait for the turbo. I'm not a huge addict for straight line speed, but I think going down to 200hp would be a little bit of a disappointment for me. Can't wait to drive one though, they look perfect for the bends.

Any speculations on HP for the turbo? I'm guessing 240-255hp, something modest to keep it slower than the STi. Still with a couple bolt-ons, that could become a pretty fast car at 2700lbs.

That car has been out of production for at least 2 years already. Need to compare apples to apples. Otherwise buy a used vette, it will spank this car in power and handling.

Subaru has stated 270hp for the turbo fa20 in the next wrx. I would expect the same for an sti brz. Wrx sti wil be north of 300hp and may end up slower than an sti brz. The 2 cars realy don't compete against each other on any front except price.

So it would be a turbo Subaru coupe that weighs maybe 2900 lbs and makes somewhere in the mid-200s in wheel hp? Maybe bigger brakes and upgraded suspension, too?

Sounds like my EJ205-powered 2.5RS.

exactly. I'm sure the brake and suspension upgrades will be part if the package. it allows for a bigger mark up and will keep sales of the non turbo model strong. if it was only the cost of the turbo, the price difference between the regular car and turbo would not be large enough

What is the point of Brembos on a stock hp car? Just for show? No thanks. I'll take the stock brakes. They will be more than enough with stocker power. If tracking, swap out the pads for something else.

Stock breaks are off the impreza right? Does the WRX use the same setup?

Before you start thinking about brembos, you need to understand what makes a car stop. Friction between pads and rotors doesn't stop cars. Friction between the tire and road stop cars.

There may be more initial bite on the bigger brakes, but stopping distance and rate of slowing down is unchanged. Completely agreed for no turbo though. I'll take the BRZ as is.

Unless you are going to be tracking the car all day, a large rotor will act as a larger heat sink and provide better breaking performance over a consistent basis. I would say swap out the stock pads first and see how the car holds up. Most likely that is all that will be needed with a stock engine.
