repairs and routine maintenance are definitely different things and maintenance costs aren't much higher for a turbo car in this class than a na one.

your car was as you stated a lemon and isn't typical. A factory turbo charged engine should last 100k miles if its not abused.

I think you will be able to wrangle enough power out of the NA with mods that I won't want for a turbo. My first wrx only had 227hp and weighed more than a BRZ...

Well I don't think we are going to agree, but it is a known issue that turbo subarus tend to have engine problems. And in my mind the cost of maintaining a vehicle includes "repair" work.

Considering that it'd be most likely more expensive than the BRZ, highly unlikely I'd wait. I'm not a track guy, and at most I like to cruise around a little hilly area but that's about as exciting as it gets. Its the adventure of going to new places that seems fun.

Superchargers also have their own problems with heat soak and again added complexity. The throttle response penalty isn't as great, but nothing really beats a well built N/A motor.

I will be interested in a higher output N/A motor only for power gains.

If they officially announced a turbo version coming out within this year/next year, then yeah. Otherwise I'm fine with the BRZ as is.

I don't think we will see a turbo version until after the new wrx so it will probably be fall 2013 at the earliest as a 2014.

LOL, well in total with labor and the hoses and stuff they replaced, yeah. I checked a few different repair shops and they all had the same price. I looked into getting a different turbo but I'd have to replace a lot of other parts to get it working and it wouldn't have a warranty and it would put more stress on an old engine and be less responsive. Sigh... and I just spent 3k on a new transmission. This car is killing me in repair costs. I need to retire it for snow duty and get the FRS as a daily driver.

wow! You've spent $5500 repairing a 13 yr old car that cost 28k to begin with? I remember those eclipses and I loved them but that is serious coin to be dropping into a car that is probably only worth what you have put into it or maybe even less.

you should pick up a junker to drive around before something else breaks.

I know... I compiled a list of things I've had to replace over the years and it adds up to over 10k. And there are still things I need to replace on it soon. I love the car but I'm ready for something that I can drive daily without worrying about what's going to fail next. I may be riding a motorcycle more often this summer but I still need something practical to drive. But I refuse to pay money for a normal boring car. Driving is about the only exciting thing I do in my life so if I had a boring car, I'd have no reason to live anymore. LOL

Yep. If a turbo BRZ doesn't come out, not a big fucking deal.

I'd love a turbo BRZ, keep the turbo small and responsive and you'll have a direct cayman competitor on all fronts, for hopefully 1/2 - 3/4 of the price.

P.S. factory turbo cars are quite reliable and responsive, if ya don't screw with it i.e. (bigger turbo = lag or increasing boost on stock turbos = turbo and engine death)
