Pretty stupid but then again so are half the stickers people put on their cars.

What sets this apart is they have the effect of drivers avoiding your car. I don't associate rice with something that creates a practical benefit unlike cookie cutter rice stickers.

I agree on the "ugly" part in that it jumps out but I plan to decorate my headrests with some yellow characters from Japan (plush hats) and my car's aesthetic isn't exactly subtle.

I'd screw with any twin that is running one of these. In the exact same way I screw with kids in their civic with just a fart can on it to make a ton of noise.

I agree on the "ugly" part.

I don't think this has any practicality; for a couple reasons:

1) It can have the exact opposite effect. Some people see "student driver" and want to mess with them.

2) If everyone drives around with "student driver", it detracts from the actual student drivers out there making people not give a shit about either the real ones or fake ones. Sort of like 'the boy who cried wolf'.

3) People can see in your car. There aren't too many student drivers that are in their 20s, 30s, etc.

4) Student drivers usually don't drive a brand new sports car.

If anything, I think these are worse than all the dumb stickers people put on their cars. At least those ones allow an individual to express themselves, even if the stickers are dumb/ugly to most.. these stickers just imitate something that the car/driver isn't (on top of being ugly). (Isn't that the definition of rice?)

yeah, when i see a 'student driver' sticker, i change lanes harder near them, usually get closer then normal while passing them, and stop harder then normal if they get behind me..

some might call me an ass, i prefer to look at it as giving future generations defensive driving experience.

Difference is, as a former rider and safety course graduate, I possess some defensive driving sense against crazy drivers. They're an accident waiting to happen and require their license to be taken away (different problem from these signs entirely) and tend to show themselves regardless of having signs. If these signs cause them to reveal themselves more apparently, that helps me detect and avoid them better.

I don't see how my obeying the rules of the road (my job security as a civil servant relies on it) is "crying wolf." Conversely, I don't see myself "living up to the name" by attempting rookie maneuvers. I'll drive the same with or without the signs so zero-sum game. But throw in the signs variable and that only increases the chance of accidents? The gov't better outlaw these signs then!

Rice errs towards being thoughtless. This idea isn't the same as it's more thought out. And I get carded everywhere I purchase alcohol because I look younger than 21.

Your car is not a drivers ed car. If you want people to stay clear of you put reflective tape on the rear bumper like the progressive or geico vehicles have. That says " I'm a safety nut and want to stand out" just as much as these stickers with a little bit less douchebag vibe.

And how is that better than...

1] Mock the JDM Shoshinsha/Wakaba badges people have which mean the same thing.
2] These signs in English are a thing in Japan like how they rebadge "Toyota 86" to "Scion FR-S." My car with JDM parts trying to be USDM will make it even more genuinely JDM.
3] Removable/reusable so I can put them on/take them off as I please.
5] Even the best pro race drivers constantly learn to perfect their driving technique. We're all students of driving, especially in a car purpose built to teach us how to drive.

The ones I'm looking at have a reusable adhesive backing or are static cling like those oil change reminders dealers apply to the upper driver's side corner of your windshield.

Other signs are available as magnets, but those have the possibility of falling off on the road and dirt can accumulate below them.

Remember kids, just because it works in Japan, doesn't mean it'll work here!

The most pathetic part about this is that you are trying to imitate a Japanese thing here in the US. NOBODY GIVES A SHIT about some of their stupid ricer styles which includes this.

Thousands of Americans who know the Wakaba mark might get it. Otherwise, I'll let the ignorant stay confused. People I've asked who aren't into cars but know Japanese culture (pretty much most non-car people I know in SoCal) think it's brilliant. If too many copy, I'll take them off. If nobody cares, at least they'll match some yellow interior bits I'm planning and can put them on/off at my leisure.

I used to have 16 stickers on the front, sides, and rear of my car. Now I just have 1 on my hood. Whether anyone "gives a shit" was never a factor - I do as I please.
