1) PayPal (within their period for disputes) 2) Credit card company (if option 1 fails and assuming you paid with credit card) Quote:
or 2) To not pay the credit card fees and pass the cost of doing business to the buyer. To avoid this, ideally the admin should set concrete rules of either product w/ forum name on a piece of paper, or prohibit all sales with a "PayPal gift" option. All sales should be via normal PayPal or otherwise verified method of payment, to avoid these types of situations. Yes, scammers will still try to game the system. However, by using a normal PayPal method of payment for a product, you as a buyer will be protected, and so will the seller. Sometimes saving 3% means losing 100%. -alex |

He has NOT contacted me at all since last Wednesday. I did give him couple warnings before making this thread since I didn't want to make a drama out of nothing. I wanted to make sure that he knew I was going to make a scammer topic here. Emailed him saying that if he doesn't want to be called as a scammer, he can either refund me my $300 or send out the exhaust (if he really has it) by yesterday morning. He didn't. So I made this thread. |

When the scammer was keep on insisting that I have to send him as a gift, I actually wanted to show him that gifting is not allowed on FT86 thinking it would be under the trading rules. Surprisingly it wasn't in the rule book. |

By using the gifting function, you are basically saying "I'm not expecting anything in return" In the court of public opinion, the guy is an idiot. In a court of law, it's the other way around. -alex |

I tried everything to not send the payment as a gift when I first talked to him. Gave him couple different options. Even offered him $100 gift + $200 standard + 3% since he said he needed funds to send out the package. I know I'm the idiot who gifted the payment in the end, but it's not like I tried to cover my ass from the get go. |

I have no idea if this would work, but you could always dispute the charge with your credit card company if that's how you funded it. Since PayPal is a payment service and not the actual provider of the goods you were scammed out of, I'm not really sure if that'll fly, though.

This way you still get a great deal and he still gets his $300 or whatever sale price was. Everyone wins. ... but look at it this way. Even if it was an in-person cash transaction and you sold something, who is to say the other person isn't paying with counterfeit money? If a 3rd party system is set up to protect both buyer/seller and offer a dispute/mediation service, always take advantage of that. -alex |
