I leave them on for daily driving. I typically only turn them off when autoxing. I'm with the guys who think if you need them off for daily driving you should get off the road. But on occasion I may turn them off just to smoke some jerk at a light. T/C sorta kills a launch.

Also noticed the guy talking about drinking and driving. You did imply being drunk and you should rot in jail.

i drive safely with them off almost all the time. We have winter here, and I find it just more dangerous to have them on (I prefer a really small wheelspin while I try to catch speed entering a highway then slowing down because the car can't find traction)

but i guess if someone doesn't feel safe without them, he should keep them on at all time.
never had those kind of system, never feeled the need to either. if you keep the car within it's limit and within law's limit, and you adapt your driving to the road condition, you shouldn't need AI to let you think you really control the car, when you really dont..

I pretty much keep everything on for DD. This is my first RWD car AND my first standard trans. I come form a line of sh*t-box cars that didn't have TCS, Stability Control or even ABS. Hell, power windows were a luxury. Granted, I drive this car quite a bit harder than the others I have owned. Having said that, I keep it well within its limits when I decide to turn on Sport Mode. Cruising and "spirited" driving in good conditions. The only time I turn everything off is when I feel like doing a little burnout (in a parking lot behind the fire station I work at which is twice lol), or in the winter to get out of a parking spot/through slush at a low speed. I figure once you get a better feel for what the car can take (and what your nerves can handle), driving with sport on or all off most of the time will feel a bit more natural/fun. Until my experience is built upon, everything ON.

99% of the time i drive it with how it starts, it doesn't limit me really in driving on the street. i can still corner relatively fast and etc..

also, if you don't know what you're doing please keep the nannies on!

I use sport mode for predominately low speed sections of road which require frequent braking and transitions.

All off for the track.

And Default for wet conditions, or normal driving. Even on default ..I can get the car in some nasty spots in default mode ...so its a good idea to keep it on if you arent on the track.

I dont like having the options ..but it is still nice to have it there when you fuck up. Why just 2 weeks ago I got a good 45 degree angle at 80 mph on a decreasing radius off ramp. IT was wet ..and It still took a good amount of time for TCS and ECS to respond. though to be honest it still has me confused on what was happening.

My consensus is ..it would have been smoother with TCS and ECS off .. I might have spun to a stop but it was more predictable than the "Sudden understeer ..." and since I was also applying countersteer ... I had to try to return the wheel to center again with no notice and ended up making the ole noobie "pendulum" effect. You know ..where you dont center the wheel fast enough and the car tosses back and forth at least once.

But default can definitely save your insurance money and yoru car =D

I had a fun experience just yesterday.

Flash snow barely sticking to the streets but right about 30 degrees outside. I have stock tires.
Based on everyone's suggestions on these forums, since it was slightly snowy, I'd try with nannies off.
When driving through the neighboorhood, the car was fine, no spinning tires, no slipping, no problem. I even do a couple of "brake checks" to asses the road conditions.

So I get out of the neighborhood, and turning to merge onto a 50 MPH highway Ouside of the neighborhood is wide open farmland. This highway borders houses on one side farmland on the other.
I turn into the merge lane and begin accelerating, no slipping, i get up to ~35 (speed of traffic) and begin to merge. As I get carefully on the throttle, the ass begins to slide out to the left.
I know better than to over compensate by lifting too hard, but as soon as I lift at all, the car pendulums into a complete 180 slide INTO ONCOMING traffic!
So I lay on the brakes depending on the ABS and the car stops facing exactly backwards in the oncoming lane of traffic.

the one car coming at me missed me by about 1 inch by passing on the shoulder.

So what happened? I believe that the weather was right at the point of the roads beginning to freeze.
In the neighboorhood, the wind was kept higher because of the houses.
As soon as I got on the county road (farmland) the wind had cooled the road to the point of freezing.

So moral of the story:
DONT drive in the snow with stock tires EVEN IF "it seems fine" because you might find youself in a place where it is NOT FINE.
Dont drive with the nannies off just because "it might be slick in the snow".
Turnthem off WHEN you have traction problems, not before.

I did not get ANY warning of the loss of traction before the car was backwards.

I was literally 1 inch from being the next "I totaled my car".
It would have REALLY sucked since I recently discoverd that my car is likely the very first production GBS-BRZ in the US.

So after ~30 years of driving in the snow, I can honestly say this is the #1 most tail happy car I have ever driven....

Stock tires, nannies off...you aren't qualified to make that claim. Granted, every car you grew up driving probably didn't have nannies to begin with, but c'mon.

Ummm.. How is it that I am not qualified to say that about all the cars I have driven?

Is it more tail happy than a Bugati Veyron? I have no idea....

Supras, 280ZX, Porsches, Corvette, Camaro, GMC Typhoon, pickups, RVs, midengine, rear engine, VWs, diesels, toyota camrys - YUP more tail happy than any of those.

Winter conditions. Stock tires. Nannies off. Your conclusion is based on flawed conditions.

Every ONE of the cars I listed above I drove: In winter conditions, with stock tires (AND other tires) and nannies off....

So... your point is?

I can rephrase "So after ~30 years of driving in the snow, I can honestly say this is the #1 most tail happy car I have ever driven....IN Winter conditions. Stock tires. Nannies off"

How dense are you? Stock tires (unless you have the Bridgestones) are fucking SUMMER tires.

Go crash into a pole, I'm out. Deuces.

If I'm on public roads I leave TC and VSC on. Better safe than sorry. As others have said, if you drive in such a way on public roads that you are constantly kicking on VSC or Traction Control then you drive like an ***hat. Frankly, I can of zero situations where VSC or TC could negatively affect your ability to avoid an accident. Public roads are not for clowning around. There are plenty of safe, affordable, and fun ways to get your driving kicks in without putting others lives or property in danger.

When autocrossing, everything off, except the first time I raced in the rain with the stock tires. Left it on until I was comfortable with how the tires gave up grip in the wet.

I have lived and driven in snow my entire life and NEVER ONCE changed summer to winter tires.
So "Same tires summer & winter: This car is more tail happy than Supras, 280ZX, Porsches, Corvette, Camaro, GMC Typhoon, pickups, RVs, midengine, rear engine, VWs, diesels, toyota camrys" Happy!

You are arguing with my OBSERVATION. SO my observation is incorrect and you are the authority of MY experiences?
Great! what did I have for lunch??

AND I am not just talking about the slickness of the tires. I am talking about POLAR MOMENTUM.
Once this car decides to let go, you will be looking at where you came from very quickly.
I have spun mid-engined cars 360 deg. and maintained complete feeling of where I was and regained control.
This car FLIPS ends very easily.

Prior to this car I would have said that the 280ZX was the worst with the supra being mild mannered in comparison.

I've never had TC on any of my RWD's (all I have owned for40 Years) so the first time when I was in slippery conditions and making a lefthand turn at traffic lights I was nearly caught out by the TC applying thebrakes and slowing me down in front of oncoming traffic. Scared the hell out ofme. Have driven with TC off ever since when in snowy conditions, preferring myright foot for that job. I have learned that with the nannies on you have toallow for them by looking for bigger breaks in the traffic flow than I haveever been used too. It could just be me but I have always enjoyed driving inthe winter.
