How did you guys record the car for insurance?

Did your insurance company know about the monogram series? Was it more or less expensive than the normal frs?

Why would it be less? If anything, it would be more expensive due to the higher replacement cost.

I just gave them the VIN and price paid, they did the rest. Surprised to find it fits into the econobox risk category. Win!

Since monogram is just cosmetic & creature comfort upgrades, there's no real differentiation as far as insurance is concerned. Most just ask for your VIN, and the year, make, and model.

Don't think it mattered. I gave them my vin and they pulled the rates up

The insurance on my 2014 Monogram was less expensive than the 2010 tC I had.
I asked my agent how that could be possible and she told me the rates are not just based on value. They look at a lot of different statistics like how many claims there have been against a certain model. So I'm thinking since the FR-S has only been out for 3 years there probably hasn't been near as many claims as a tC which there are a whole lot more on the road.

I also priced insurance for my sons 2008 Dodge truck and a policy with him and me and just the truck was $200 more (6 months) than him and me, the truck, a 1998 Expedition and a 2014 Monogram. She explained that one as 2 drivers and 1 vehicle is much more likely to be in an accident than 2 drivers and 3 vehicles. I can kind of understand but no matter how many vehicles we have we are still going to be on the road the same amount of time (just in a different vehicle) but insurance companies don't look at it like that, they look at statistics.

of course we know that the oem headlights alone are a $2,000 expense.

but in terms of insurance, the msrp of the monogram is "only" ~$3000 more than base.

and we get security system and push start system that helps with theft. i wouldn't be surprised if insurance was cheaper... very much how the brz limited is more expensive than base frs, but has cheaper insurance.

BTW, my insurance didn't have a separate category for the monogram.

I'm considering telling them I have a security system and push start ignition with engine immobilizer. But only if my insurance is sure to go down.

My BRZ was not cheaper because of the alarm it came with, it was because of it being a Subaru vs a Scion.

which illustrates the nonsense of insurance rates and why the monogram can be lower with "anti-theft" features.
