I have the cricket noise, it comes and goes.. Very annoying and embarrassing. I emailed Subaru with my VIN and issue description. Here is the response:

Quote:
"We appreciate you taking the time to email us with your concerns regarding your BRZ. I have documented this information in our database and we're sorry to hear that you find this noise to be embarrassing. The noise you described may be coming from the engine’s high-pressure fuel pump. There were running changes made to the vehicle and because your vehicle was produced in April, your vehicle should not be affected.

It is possible that this is a normal characteristic of the vehicle but if you feel there is an issue with your BRZ, please contact your local Subaru dealer for an appointment. I called Subaru of xxx and at your last appointment, this concern was not noted in their system. I would recommend that you drive your vehicle with either the Service manager or a technician so you can help them understand the noise you are hearing."
My local dealer said the noise was normal. Some crap like it happens in Cadillacs too.. Yeah sure!

Happened to stop by my dealer today and had them check out the noise. Ordering the part and replacing it next week. I guess I got lucky.

It happens in the ~$58k Acura MDX.

It's a design flaw and they haven't figured it out yet.

Just hit 1250 miles in my 10-Series, and noticed the chirping after running in to 2point0 (nice to meet you BTW), and a longer drive this weekend. Set my service appointment for Friday morning, and will show up with TSB in-hand along with the part number 2point0 posted. Hopefully they'll coincide, and I can clear this up. Now that I noticed it, it's driving me a litle nuts..

Howdy! Actually, that part number might not work for you since that's the Subaru number. I think all the Scion/Toyota ones have different numbers. I would call to be sure, because the TSB that keeps getting posted was what I got from Kearny Mesa Subaru and I don't think they'll honor each other's bulletins. Which is dumb because it's all the same...

As its warming back up, I have been straining to hear the crickets. They seem to be fading. I'm at 16k miles.

It's a chirping sound that reminds you of a ton of psychotic crickets. It comes from the high pressure direct injection fuel pump. It does not affect the function, but if you're sensitive to funny noises, it'll drive you batty.

You'll know if/when you get it.

I did not notice the crickets when I bought our 2014. It already had 1100 miles on it from the previous owner, so I thought I was good. After about 2k+ miles the crickets have shown themselves and it's annoying.

Yeah . . . . I thought I heard them crickets whilst slowing down in gear the other day with a light throttle. And as soon as the idle settles to normal 650rpm or so they re-appear, not very noisy but obvious. Warm weather is also a factor :/ And I have the Perrin unres CBE !

Yeah, that noise got really loud at one point where I almost lost it, haha. Damn car had less that 1500 miles.
