Yeah! I had a straight pipe on my BMW (so no muffler at all). I don't know if I should be actually saying this but I took an old photo of my car with the stock exhaust on it, put a date that was AFTER the cop pulled me over onto the photo.

I also used an OLD record from BMW about problems with my stock exhaust since I got it replaced because it had problems with the acutator and also brought in the documents about the problems with the turbo.

I technically blamed my "improper muffler" on old problems and blamed the loud noise on the turbo not working properly and that the same problem was occuring again with the exhaust.

No swap was needed. I also had a lawyer working on it for me because I got 2 other tickets WITH the improper muffler ticket....

*government....please dont come after me* :P

It can be done, its all in the legalese, more so than in facts or justice.

The law is an ass.

They won't tell you that but if you arn't rude in court and you have the pic and explain they will drop the charge. It's a bullshit charge.

Edit. Also dress nicely it helps.

btw I have worked in the courts directly with the judges and jps

I used to have the loudest exhaust on my M3 and rip it everywhere, never had a problem. I also had a cutout on a previous car and never had problems with that either.

Really depends if you run into a jerk cop with nothing better to do honestly.

I'd probably go down the road of

MY Oem muffler rusted out after 2 years of use, So I decided to purchase a more efficient stainless steel exhaust that is still below 95 decibals ( general noise bylaw in Ottawa ) and is catted and resonated to avoid polluting the earth and maybe bring my smoking hot wife to the courthouse as well.
