Took it to the track last weekend too for two days, and it was dreamy. A guy who races a manual FRS (and set the track record for his class that day) said he wouldn't want to compete against an equally built auto. He'd lose.

I've been able to heel/toe shift for almost 20 years, so yes, I understand the attraction to manuals, but this auto is the best short of an M3 or 911.

thank for you input!

I really like the effortless of being in high revs on AT. That's what(high revs) gives me the feel of control and rigid connectivity motor-transmission-body.

-Does it feel one piece, like MT does?

-Tuning AT as simple as MT?

Still can't decide on AT or MT for your first FRS/BRZ? This may help...

The drive train feels very connected. The shifts are sharp and solid, especially with the tranny in sport mode. It's super easy to keep in the high rpm powerband. And the at will not upshift on you unexpectedly when you're in manual mode. It will let you redline and never shift for you.

Tuning is essentially identical to the manual. You can even swap the final drive to a different ratio if want a higher or lower final drive, depending on the track you're driving or your daily driving habits.

I chose the MT because I wanted to learn the skill and enjoy the driving experience. Even in heavy traffic (Toronto) I don't really mind it anymore, it's just the norm. Haven't looked back since then!

Even though I know that I would personally be much faster in an auto (I don't like to slam my gears when I shift, even spirited driving I try to keep it tame) I do enjoy the fact that I know precisely when my gear will engage. When I had my GTI with DSG, there was a bit of guesswork involved as to how quickly it would shift after invoking the paddle.

I completely agree with you about the skill and enjoyment.

As for the input-to-action delay. It's virtually nonexistent in this auto. I experienced the same irritation as you in other autos. Press. Waaaait. Shift. This auto is not like that at all. Extremely precise to the level just below full MSport mode (6 bars) in an E92 M3. If you've driven that M3, I'd say this speed and engagement is about equal to 5 bars.

Two thing I do miss:
Coasting
Launching

To coast, I basically upshift
To launch, well, I don't. LoL it's not a drag car.

Thank you very much for your inputs!

..cant you just coasting when move in N position on AutoStick?
I do it every time with my semi-auto-dry-7dsg . But this in order not to overTemp the clutch on stops (no oil there)

technically you can do that, but it's not elegant. you go from manual (left on the stick) , through Drive (stick centered) and then to N. possible, but I prefer to just upshift.

I agree, it is very responsive to paddle inputs. Yes, there have been a few times that I miss coasting, but upshifting definitely works well.

As for launching, it's easy peasy with the auto. Left foot brake, rev to 2200rpm to load up the converter, 3rd yellow illuminates, let off the brake and smash the gas. Bone stock, it definitely is a slow drag car (ran a 16.18 at 87mph), but the drags aren't a bad way to spend an afternoon or evening. Track days are definitely more fun that the strip though albeit 5 - 10x more expensive depending on where you track at.

..pulled the trigger, AUTO Tranny, DGM + Leather .

1. Have someone experienced with any problems on auto tranny?
2. Have someone supercharged his babe with no other modification on tranny (auto)? What MAX torque it supposed to take with no issues (spec. numbers, if possible)?

..just found over the tuning threads (from kioton32):
"In the stock form the Automatic tranny can handle 450 HP and 425 lb/ft of torque... The manual can only handle 220 hp and 200 lb/ft torque before the clutch starts slipping... That's what I was referring to. So at 220 hp you have to upgrade the clutch. "

..hopefully TRUE and will interest here the auditory

I can assure you the stock MT can handle over 220 hp and 200 ft/lb's of torque. The stock clutch is good up to 240 ft/lbs, and the gearbox much more.

Which trans cooler? We track as well, and it's hot as hell here in Arizona...

There are upgrades for this AT that will make it more badass. Valve body, higher stall torque converter, tranny cooler etc.

I went FI so the first thing I did was put a tranny cooler. I can't log the temperature but it has a pretty good sized heat exchanger so should be good. I also changed out the AT fluid to Redline high temp from OEM.

Sure the transmission will hold up much higher tq/hp but for how long? Longevity is important if you are not sponsored. Assume all life span to the OEM part is cut to 1/2 to 1/3 after heavily modifying or tracking.
