It's probably in this thread, but I'm lazy; what's a good compromised brake pad? My BRZ is a daily drive+CS autocrosser, and I don't want a squealy pad. I used to run EBC Yellowstuff on my G20, and Hawk HP+ on my MR2, and they were squealy on the road. I've never used the Hawk HPS and the EBC Redstuff brakes wear down like a ding dong in a prostitute. Recommendations?

I would highyl recommend Ferodo DS2500 for a daily'd autocross twin. Absolutely love them on my car. @ViperASR will attest to the fact that this thing stops quicker than his STR S2000. And repeatedly. I suggest doing brake fluid too with something trackday-worthy.

+1 for Ferodo as a "compromise" pad. They don't squeal. The downside is price, dust, and they need a little warmth to work on cold days. I took mine off for the winter.

But they are a very good track / autocross pad.

Price I don't mind too much, and dust doesn't bother me because I keep my car clean. How bad are they in the cold? I don't want to be switching pads around every few months. Laziness and all.

I need minor heat to work in my experience. I drag them up to my first run and they are perfect by the time I hit the brakes for the 2nd time. The first braking zone of the day is that only time they aren't 90%+

These are light on dust compared to every other decent performance pad I've seen. In the 30s, they work well, haven't been in anything colder. Slight squeal for first 2-3 stops then silence.

For likely half the price, I've been very happy with the Stoptech Performance pads. Not nearly as aggressive as a Hawk HP+, but slightly more aggressive and better for light track day duty compared to a Hawk HPS. I haven't personally run EBC Yellow's, or Ferrodo so I can't quite compare. I ran these pads all summer/winter. Dust is minimal, but it's there. They squeaked slightly after a track day, but went away after a few days. Strongly recommended.

Thanks guys! I'll keep it in consideration. I'll try to drive a few different cars this season and see if I like anything else. Worse case I gotta get a second set of pads, right?

I love the Ferodo DS2500s. They're quiet but definitely let off a lot of brake dust.

I feel they aren't all that dusty but I came to Ferodo from Carbotech. Then again, coal mining is relatively dustless compared to (admittedly awesome) Carbotech pads

I thought your autocross wheels were supposed to be black when you took them off, that saves you from marking which ones were on the front last event!

+2 (or +3) on the DS2500’s. Work great for auto-x as others have stated.

I’ve run them all winter and they are fine on the street through all kinds of nasty conditions – at least as much as I can tell on Michelin X-ICE’s – you just have to be conscious that you will have a little bit of non-linearity with pad temperature. For example, on my commute I have a long straight off ramp that ends in a traffic light with several miles of zero braking before hand – with constant brake pedal pressure you can actually feel the braking force pick up a little bit as you slow – the initial bite is still fine (could immediately engage ABS if I wanted/needed to) and some drivers might not even notice it happening.

They do make more noise at <20 F, but mostly at parking lot speeds and the noise is very mild.

More dust than stock, but nothing I would complain about. I have no experience with the others mentioned, though, so ymmv/etc.

I just noticed it has jumped my 'stop hole' Still, this happened early last year and hasn't gotten too much worse. I’m considering it an example of how to use the car properly and don’t plan to replace it until I really have to.

I did end up replacing both front wheel well liners over the course of last year – they each ended up dragging on the wheels/tires.
