Mishimoto Needs Your Help With Our BRZ/FR-S Intake!

Hey FT86,

We are in the process of developing a brand new intake specifically for the BRZ/FR-S! In a few days we will begin posting some behind the scenes development images and information in the form of a build thread. In the meantime, we were hoping for some assistance in selecting the color/finish choices for the intake. We are interested in providing the most popular options for our production units and any input from forum members/enthusiasts will be a huge help. Check out the poll and the renderings of our design and feel free to make suggestions for additional colors. These renderings are not exact, but should provide a general idea of the look from each finish.

Also, our intake is very performance oriented, this finish is simply a small detail we need to work out now that we have started development of the kit. Our build thread will have information on design, performance and will include testing data.

Thank you in advance for your opinion!

Polished

Wrinkle Black

Wrinkle Red

Wrinkle Blue

Thanks

So I have the Vigilant Motorsports CAI which is a similar design to yours, in fact it even has Mushimoto couplers. The only issue that may come up in a design like this is with mine it had horrible idle once installed. It seems that this was because of the air coming around the hard corner and not being evenly distributed when hitting the MAF. I put a mesh grill before the MAF and it balanced everything out perfectly.

I know this did not happen to everyone who bought the VM CAI, but i'm sure I was not the only one effected.

You guys may have already taken account for this seeing how there is a bit more straight pipe before the MAF, just figured i'd share my experience with a similar design.

as long as this gives a genuine gain with a tune and isn't yet another intake that screws up the MAF reading so it leans the fuel out to a more favourable value

as we all know that these cars run very rich as standard so the leaning out then makes an indifferent piece of hardware look like a gain when in fact all its doing is correcting a rich AFR

so an intake with a superior pressure drop would be nice especially for the FI crowd

looking at this pipe it looks like it replaces the stock intake tube under the bumper as well?

Interesting product! I assure you our intake will provide improved performance without any drive-ability or idle issues. Our engineering team is hard at work to develop this product with many neat features including an air straightener to promote laminar flow across the MAF sensor. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Our goal with this project is to improve power while following the factory AFR curve as closely as possible. So far, this has been quite successful and our initial testing has been very positive. You are correct in assuming this intake kit will replace the entire air duct system within the bumper. Our build thread should be starting either later this week or early next, and will include a ton of interesting details.

Thanks!
