points reduction course
So I got a few points and a fine for going over the speed limit (first speeding ticket in 9 years... Thanks Scion!). I was told I can get these points reduced by taking some online driving courses. Has anybody done this before? Are there any companies or websites that you recommend?

Can't remember which site I used but the police recommended it to me. You might want to call your Police Dept and ask them. Was about 12 years ago. Had to pay the fine but no points.

Do it online at www.idrivesafely.com. It costs $30, but also qualifies you automatically for a 10% premium reduction on your insurance, good for 3 years.
For some reason, I only have roughly a 7% premium reduction, but that's a $61 discount every 6 months. |

You can Google "online defensive driving course" and pick whatever is cheapest. They have to cover the same topics and have the same minimum amount of time you have to spend. Enjoy your next 6-8 hours.

I wouldn't bother unless your insurance increased, and/or you have additional points that will get your license suspended
I have 6 points added to my license recently and the insurance haven't increase yet. I just got the new bill due next month and no increase, so I'm going to just leave it be. I feel like if I submit it for a discount they will see my violation and increase and it will be pointless Another thing, even if you get a points reduction, insurance can still see your violations even if you have no point. My understanding is points stay on your license for 18 months (minus reductions) and the actual violation is visible (to insurance) for 3 years, regardless of point reductions. |

![]() So, there, Mikem53, I reckon you are referring to the old days (prior to Internet) ..... so, you had to show up in a classroom. And, there wasn't enough hours in the days to stay ahead of the mandatory courses ..... so. you had to hire a lawyer to get them reduced.. ?? Shame on you for setting a bad example for our new drivers ...... ![]() I'm sure glad I didn't get caught THAT much ...... ![]() humfrz |

I can't remember if this is true or an old wives' tale but I remember hearing that when you pay your fine, pay $1 more than the fine is for. You will receive an overpayment refund for the difference, $1, which you shred and never cash. Since the check is never cashed, the case is never "closed" it won't be reported to insurance or go on your record, but the fine still shows as paid. Does anyone know if this is true?

Take the course - don't try and scam the county. They will catch up to you. As will the insurance company - soon as you renew, you will feel it, so enjoy the temporary reprieve.

Where a 3 hour driving school bored us with blood and gore movies from A classroom projector and actual film. Where everyone did their time with long faces.. Lol I got 2 tickets in one day when I was out there having a good time.. I was really bad.. In today's traffic and cellular hell.. You just can't do that stuff anymore.. Now that we have all the good safety equipment, brakes and lots of horsepower, we can't really enjoy it on the street. Which is why I sold my Corvette and enjoy the FRS much more.. You can have fun and not break too many laws.. But yes.. I was very bad.. No regrets.. |
