okay so i think i'll be getting a sony headunit now

here come my inevitable questions.

1. would you still have it set up as: tablet>otg>usb hub>dac>aux>head unit
and then on the app you would select aux to have music/movies selected from your tablet.
2. would the arduino work if connected to the usb hub
3. how do you program the arduino board.

im going to try source the parts now.

this is great progress though, cause not being able to control the headunit was one thing i was skeptical about.

Okay, I'm no EE so perhaps someone would know better than me...But that 4port hub you linked there doesn't specify the Amperage it can handle and disseminate across the 4ports.

If it's only rated for *standard* USB power, then that's only 500mAH shared across the 4ports. I don't think the DACs require much power, so you'll likely be okay (expect particularly sloooooow charging if you plug a phone in at the same time!)....BUT especially for a multi-port USB hub, I'd be more inclined to find one that had an external power source option (or a 2nd USB connector for extra power).

actually that was one thing i noticed after i purchased it, that it didnt say what amperage it had.
if im to buy another one, would you know what amperage it should have, possibly even link me to one.

thanks

The dac requirements are low and the adruino will only leech power when needed (at start up). What matters is how well his power supply for the nexus will power the hub. He can only try unfortunately.

The board can be programmed with the files found in the link I provided. And yes the board should work fine on the hub. The issue is the if the hub will have enough power to handle everything and you won't know until you try.

yeah im willing to spend a few bucks and try different hubs if that helps.
all that is left for me now is to get that adruino sorted.
ive bookmarked all the parts and downloaded the fullsonyremote.zip uploaded in post number 57 by lastmile.
what im not aware of is how i upload that .ino file to the adruino.
any of you guys know.
i tried to register for that website but it does verification via text and being in australia, well, i havent gotten the text and dont think i will.

im guessing using the software from here:
http://arduino.cc/en/Guide/Windows#toc9

and simple directions from here, i should be able to just upload it.

The more this project progresses, the more it keeps hitting on things I've tinkered with over the past couple of years...Androids and Android programming, Arduino physical computing and then recently doing mods to my car. I think Karma is tapping me on the shoulder! Yeah, I need to learn all these things and then I'll be able to take over the world!! Muhahaha.

...Anyway, on further checking back-in into arduino land, the board seems use very little power. Like in the single-digit to very low double-digit mAH kind of range. A DAC and an Arduino sharing power from a standard USB power source should be fine.

Sweet thanks for the heads up. Now I wish I had gone with the Sony unit.

I actually just bought the Sony 3100p so I can use the exact sketch.
Perfect timing for this discovery

i forgot to mention. i bought and received the double din brackets.
its too short, is it supposed to fit over the nexus 7?

i tried looking closely at the pics.
is the metra it just sitting in front of the nexus?
in that case, what is its purpose and what holds it there.

thanks buddy

The only point is to cover the gaps. Try installing it and you will see where the gaps are and what you need to do.

Did you have to shave the bottom of the dash piece to fit the Nexus 7 in?
I cut off the top connector bit, but I'm still having trouble fitting it in the dash.

Nope it should fit snugly. If I remember correctly you need to get the bottom in first.

Still couldn't get it to fit properly, so I ended up cutting the back cover of my tablet to make it fit.

I also bought a JVC KD-X250BT head unit, which allows me to control the head unit functions via bluetooth on my phone. I can control the source, volume, equaliser. That way I don't need to mess around with all that Arduino stuff.
