19" Wheels/Tires Advice
I've tried to use all the resources on the forum to figure out an answer to my question, but get lost in all the numbers. Can anyone please help me?
I'm looking at the following wheels/tires setup. TSW rims 19x8 225/35R19 5x100 48 offset I'm running stock everything and have no plans to change. Does anyone know if the wheels/tires will fit and not rub and how far they'll stick out? I think they'll fit properly and whatnot, but looking for some help. Any advice is appreciated...thank you. |

Lots of people on here think 19's are too big for this car. I'm running 18's and think they fit the car perfectly, although I was seriously considering 19's all the way up to the end. For me the determining factor was performance and ride quality. The 19's will be heavier than 18's, so acceleration and handling will be reduced the heavier your wheels are (abet not drastically worse). And ride quality will be harsher with 35 series tires. Lastly, your car likely will look 4x4 running 19's on stock ride height.
With that said, if you're still set on 19's, because some look really good on this car...I wouldn't get 19x8 +48 wheels, as they'll be sunk into the wheel well too much. I'd look at +40 or +35 offset. Also the MPSS is available in 235/30/19. There is a yokohama and pirelli available in 245/30/19. Both sizes are closer to stock than the 225/35/19, which is the most common (affordable) size.
Personally, I feel suspension changes ride quality more than low pro tires. Though it is easier to bend a wheel with lower profile tires. I looked at 19's, but feel that 18's provide better tire selection, weight, and a thicker sidewall for all the potholes in my area.

I have 19x8 +49 on 225/35/19 tires. They fit fine and give the car a finished look.

Forget the diameter of the wheel, as long as the tire diameter is close to stock, no issues there. It just means the sidewall is shorter. It's all about width (that's what she said). You're looking into a wheel that's the same offset as stock, but one inch wider. Let's convert that to 25.4 mm real quick. So, since the offset line is a fixed distance from center, you can add half of that 25.4 to each side (so that the centerline does not change). Now you can go out to the car and measure 12.7mm on the inside and outside of your stock wheel and see if it would rub anywhere (it won't), and see how far it sticks out (it doesn't). Or...just look up any of the billion threads of people running 17x8 or 18x8 +48 wheels with 225 tires. Again, if you just ignore the diameter and focus on width/offset, it's all the same for comparing how they fit. Hope that helps for future planning/measuring. FWIW, I would shoot for a lower offset. An 8" wheel with +48 offset is still very tucked. Going to a +40 is only 8mm difference...that's barely over 1/2". And since you're going with 19s, I'd go wider but that's just my opinion. My 17x8 +48 5Zigens are spaced +22 and +23 F/R. That math means +26 F and +25 R effective offsets. I'm lowered on RCE Yellow springs and am not close to rubbing anywhere with 225/45 MPSS. The only thing I don't like is how narrow the wheels/tires are combined with that much spacer (which I needed to clear stock studs). Sorry if the maths get confusing, but I find it's easier to just break down the numbers. Looking at all the mix of metric/US is funky, but when you really look at it, you can see that what seems like a big change might only be a fraction of an inch here or there.

Hey, those were the Five Axis S7:F or SF:7 - something like that. Ride quality was fine, since the tires were thinner bumps were slightly more noticable, and the power starting from 0 is a little bogged down, but again, barely noticeable. If you're getting 19s you care more about the looks than the ride quality anyway. BUT, like I said, really not much of a problem and I'd do it again.
I've owned 17s 18s and 19s with various tire sizes and suspension setups. |
