TGIF! I think when I get off, I'm going to run to Bevmo and pick up a bottle of Caol Ila. I've heard great things about Caol Ila but have never had the opportunity to try it.

Been watching some of those Ralfy videos, practically all the bottles I currently have were rated 83/100 except my Glenmorangie Original (10yr) which he rated 87.
I personally find the Glenmorangie the least interesting of all the bottles I have, it's a bit too "tame" for me. I guess like anything, personal preference plays huge into this sort of thing. Either way just for shits and giggles I'm going to find something that he's rated over 90 and give that a shot to see if it's noticeably "better" than some of the other stuff I have.

I find the Glenmorangie rather tame, too... same complaint I have about Clynelish. But Glenmorangie is a good introduction to scotch for the newbies - especially white wine drinkers - quality stuff and easy to drink. If you gave someone Ardbeg or Laphroaig as the first scotch, they'd likely never try scotch again. I had never had scotch until about 3 years ago... I was and remain amazed at the range of flavors available. This chart can be useful: http://www.lfw.co.uk/acatalog/FlavourMapGrids.html |

Oh no we fell off the first page!
I was at a family gathering on saturday and tried some Talisker 10. I was a bit shocked as I was not expecting a peaty/smoky scotch, luckily it was still relatively mild and not a whole-hog Islay. I liked it way more than I thought I would, especially after smelling it lol. I was pretty sure I didn't like the peaty scotches, but this one has made me rethink my previous stance. Going to have to take a shot at some Laphroaig and see where that takes me.

After some more experience, I tend to like Islays and Irish the most (either very peaty/smoky or not at all) - depending on my mood and what I might be snacking on. The balanced ones are still nice but sometimes feel a little boring now. Today I'm headed to Cincinnati for a court case. There's a store just south of Cinci in KY that has a RIDICULOUS selection of scotch - stuff I've never even heard of. Page 1 of 10 https://www.thepartysource.com/expre...SCOTCH+WHISKEY |

I tasted it and immediately thought of how much more interesting the Talisker was. I'm definitely going to try the Highland Park 12 next, I didn't know that was peaty/smokey either, so that should be fun.

Holy crap, the Party Source in Cincinnati area has a ridiculous selection. The attached pic is of their sample bottles - $2-$5 per 1/2oz sample. Prices on bottles are pretty reasonable, too.
I bought the Laddie 10, Amrut Fusion Indian Single Malt, Gordon & Macphail Highland Park 8, Gordon & MacPhail Glentauchers 16, Kilchoman Machir Bay. |

WOW.
That looks like a little slice of heaven right there. At $2-5/sample I think I would have spent 3 whole days there.
