Even my dealer made note of it. (A very good service dealer actually, Sewell of Dallas) Several service techs and thier main BRZ mechanic feels that the sound improvement is very close to any catbacks he has seen installed or done himself so far.
Now I am not saying a discouraging word about the catbacks. More power to those who have them as they are definitely an important piece to start with gaining more power and better sound. I just am not trying to gain power. This might be controversial to some as the engine truly is not a 0-60 power engine. But I can spin my tires in first and get scratch in second as long as I mange the revs from a standing start and be ready to enter a corner . That brings me more excitement than my past cars that had torque and power to spare (like my 2000 M Coupe hatchack). I loved that car but it could also scare the hell out of me even though I had tracked (from VA to CA) and auto-crossed for years from the late 70's through 2004) I loved the M Coupe, but I never trusted it. Much different than a 70's Lotus Europa, but so much fun in it's own way. It was underpowered much more than the BRZ is, yet it was a car that you could push to the extreme with the engine revs at the max. Very different, but still very similar to the BRZ in handling characteristics, but the Europa never had close to 200HP in factory form. Yes it weighed a bit less, but that is why the power from the Renualt engine seemed sufficient to have all the fun you needed. (But it was a lot of work to keep tuned and running in top form) My point of all this is to say that I love this engine. (give me another production engine that produces 100HP for every litre of displacement without some kind of boost.) This is quite an accomplishement on it's own. Once you learn how to use it well, it has ways to reward you. I understand all those who feel the need for a turbo and want more power. Go for it, I say! I just feel quite happy to have a car with a full warranty from reliable companies (Subaru/Toyota) that off the showroom floor can provide such an acute sense of handling and confidence and still produce enough power to make the car do what it does best.......make you smile ![]() Not trying to sway anybody, or make my feelings a template for anyone else. Just wanted to say this from my own love of lightweight cars over the years. Everyone is different, and has thier own feelings about what excites them the most. For me it is hanging a corner perfectly, entering fast, braking slightly (with a lightweight car) and using the throttle much earlier and the brakes less than a car like the M Coupe (although I loved that car also for it sheer energy and if the track had long straights it was a winner), then pegging it to the maximum corner speed possible. No better feeling to me in the world. But that is just me. Just a topic of conversation at best. Please don't take this as a speech on what is best for anyone besides myself. |

I totally agree with ^
I've been so back and forth on boost lately as deals have been getting better. I'm living on E85 and a catless header, and that's pretty much enough for me -- but boost can be tempting for totally illogical reasons. Probably should just spend my money on more track time. This car from the back view always reminds me of that picture of the guy at the gym that forgot about leg days. Beefier tires out back really help the look.
