Here's how it looked (wet) after the first coat. When this coat dried it was noticeably darker.

This is what ONE coat of VHT Red looks like in direct sunlight:

Thats strange, do you think maybe the clear coat effected the colour because VHT typically turns out way lighter

Those are mine before clear coat.

In this order:
- Sprayed 2-3 coats of VHT (light 2000 grit wet-sand between each coat to scuff)
- Sprayed 2 coats of clear (light wet-sand between coats - you may want to do more than two coats)
- wet sand clearcoat once hardened
- 3M hand glaze

If it still isn't perfect...
- went sand again if there are remaining imperfections in the clear
- 3M Hand Glaze

Just give the 3M a day or two to set. If you touch it an hour or two after you hand buff, it will still scratch easily and leave marks. Even a microfiber can leave marks when it's fresh. Just be patient. At least leave it overnight before installing them.
So I started and after sanding and the first coat I have a lot of fine scratches. Is this something that will dissapear with more coats or will it still be seen after everything is done?

Clearcoat them well or they will look like hell in a few years. One of the local guys up here did the redding out and sanding himself, and then took the lights to a shop for the clear coat. They look OEM

Togue Factory just did mine. I shipped my tails to them, they painted them and sent them back in less than 10 days. They could have done it faster if I wanted ones they had already painted but I was nervous that they might have unknown condensation problems as mine did previously. I haven't yet installed them but they look good. I would recommend them as mine were previously redded out with overlay that looked crappy though professionally done and I was to scared to paint mine myself.

yes, it will disappear with further coats.

and when you do the final clear coat polish, you will end up with the same type of light scratches-- use polishing compound to remove those, and then follow up with the wax/sealer of your choice.

Anyone have any experience using acrylic enamel clear over VHT? I know they can react to paints sometimes and ruin your work, but its also the strongest. I find acrylic laqueur never hardens quite hard enough.
