What body kit is on your car? It looks like the dealer installed one before you bought it. It looks like the 5AD from what I can tell..

Yeah pretty much. The tint lasted around 3-4 months before turning pink. Haha!

I tinted mine. My buddy who owns a tint shop did it. He used a different film different from what they put on Windows. He also used hot steam to apply it to give it the south curves around the sharp corners.

I went with tint because I wanted to see how the tails would look all red, but could be reverted back to stock if I wanted to.

DSS Aluminum Driveshaft, Mishimoto Oil Cooler, and Ultra Racing Brace install
DSS Aluminum Driveshaft, Mishimoto Oil Cooler, Ultra Racing Braces Install
It's been a while since my last update, but these latest round of mods will have the most impact performance wise for the track. I just got the car back from the dealer repair shop after a brush with the wall while practicing at BRC. A little snap oversteer, 4 wheel drift and I ended kissing the wall at the last turn. Nothing major, just scratches and a misaligned right fender. ![]() I've been tracking the car for a while now and have always been limited with the runs I can make before my oil temp reaches 145degC. It takes just 5 hot laps to get it to the 130-140degC range. To remedy this, I ordered a Mishimoto Oil Cooler Kit from DSG Performance. DSG did a great job shipping me the kit. Good vendor communication and service, will definitely deal with them again. This kit comes with the new design sandwich plate, which clears the stock airbox better than the older kits. The kit comes complete with a mounting bracket, fittings, oil cooler core, and sandwich plate. Having a vortech supercharger meant that I could not use the bracket because it would contact the intercooler. I decided to install it like the Perrin cooler a little bit to the left side of the intercooler. The install was done at Titan works, which did a great job. ![]() Cooler core: ![]() ![]() New design sandwich plate: ![]() Fittings and hose: ![]() Install pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Buttoned up: ![]() ![]() I also changed the oil during the install to get a fresh quart of oil in the cooler. The next mod is the DSS Aluminum driveshaft. I ordered the part from FT86speedfactory.com. Those guys are the best by far for providing parts for our cars. ![]() I went with aluminum because the weight difference from the carbon is negligible, but price is not. Costing nearly half of the carbon shaft, it was a no brainer for me. ![]() Weighing in almost half of the stock driveshaft, the benefits are clear. I was really curious how it would feel in conjunction with my 4.55 final drive. Installing it was very easy, taking less than 10 minutes. Just unbolt the stock shaft and replace with the DSS shaft. Install pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The last round of mods are the Ultra Racing front lower member brace and middle lower brace. The install happened at Autokozmetix. Fairly straightforward install, no drama, and great build quality of the braces. ![]() Ultra Racing is a Malaysian brand, which caters to a lot of platforms supplying braces from street cars to full race cars. They are also very reasonable price wise. I opted to install the front lower member brace which would give me a better turn in feel combined with my whiteline bushings and TIC steering rack bushings. ![]() ![]() The middle brace has me a bit skeptical as I have not seen any other manufacturer execute something like this. Looking at it, I think it doubles as a driveshaft brace in the unfortunate event that it falls out. So on it went. ![]() ![]() ![]() All these mods will be reviewed during the MFest at Clark International Speedway. The event will feature drag, time attack, touge battle, and drift races in one venue. I will be joining time attack and touge battle. Stay tuned for the reviews of each part after the race.

MFest, Touge Battle 3, DSS, Mishimoto, Ultra Racing Review
MFest, Touge Battle 3, DSS, Mishimoto, Ultra Racing Review
Due to the accident that happened at BRC, I was not able to join Touge Battle 2, which I heard was a well attended and successful event. I got the car back on April 5, after the dealership repairing the car for 2 weeks. Touge Battle 3 was on the 12th, so I had enough time to install the parts that came while the car was in the bodyshop. Titan Works did an amazing job installing the parts in half a day, including changing all my fluids for the race. Touge Battle 3 coincided with MFEST Philippines, the event had everything in one venue. A car show, drag race, drift event, Time Attack, and Touge Battle. I entered the Time Attack Event and Touge Battle. ![]() Here's are videos of the event, sadly they did not cover the time attack and touge battle. I'll upload more vids once they become available. [ame]http://youtu.be/-vBRJpuI6dE[/ame] [ame]http://youtu.be/epyX4xesrkk[/ame] Here are some pics of the Time Attack and Touge Battle: ![]() ![]() Gab Salvador and I lining up for the first battle: ![]() ![]() A lot of cars joined the event, time attack and touge had a combined total of 60 plus cars. The twins were represented well in the event, with 3 86s and a BRZ. Joining me in the Turbo X-Class was Dax Robles, aka @Blitzkr1eg, another Vortech powered, track ready 86. The other two toyobarus duked it out in the NA class 2.0. There were other high horsepower cars in attendance with the likes of a R33 GTR, 2 WRX Stis, a 320whp corolla altis turbo, Mr2, and some race car Hondas. I placed 1st in the Time Attack Event in my class and placed second in the Touge Battle. Both Vortech supercharged 86s dominated the turbo x class. ![]() ![]() Dax Robles aka blitzkr1eg: ![]() ![]() Review on the DSS Aluminum driveshaft: ![]() Installing the driveshaft made the car feel a lot smoother and quicker to accelerate. I noticed it immediately as I left the shop. Driving normally, you would notice that the car is just a lot smoother when accelerating from a stop. Downshifts are crisper, and the revs are faster to redline. I tested it on the street a couple of times and the redline shift from 1st to 2nd gear is a lot faster than stock, which caught me off guard a couple of times. On the track is where this mod shines. Coupled with the supercharger and 4.55 final drive, powering out of corners and accelerating to high speeds are insanely quick. 1st to 3rd gear shifts are really over in seconds. I was paired with Blitzkr1eg's car 300whp, MT, stock driveshaft, other mods and driver skill mostly the same, my AT car kept up reasonably with a 30whp disadvantage. So I'd say that this part is a must for the track rats out there. I was looking if the driveshaft added a bit of NVH, and I noticed a bit of vibration when the car reached 150-160kph. Not a lot, but just a faint vibration. On the street it's the same as stock, with no added NVH. Review on the Mishimoto Oil Cooler: ![]() If you look at the pics of the event, you might just get a feel of the conditions we raced on. It's the middle of summer here, and temps in the morning reach 35degC and by noontime reach 38-40degC. I noted that during the touge battles which were held after lunch, we had 38-39degC temps. Pre-oil cooler, my water temps would normally reach 110degC while my oil temps would reach 145degC in 5 hot laps which would prompt me to do cool down runs and return to the pit. This would also engage the AT safeguard I talk about in which the AT will shift the car automatically at redline in manual mode. It would just let you ride the revs to the fuel cutoff when the AT is running cool. This also would cause the ecu to pull timing when the oil temps are this hot. The Mishimoto Oil Cooler ran flawless the whole day, including the drive to and away from the track. No oil leaks. My peak oil temp for the day was 115degC and water was a solid 100degC. The car ran smooth the whole day, not once did the AT safeguard kick in. A solid 30deg reduction in race situation oil temps is what happened with this mod. On the street, it does not do much, as it only reduced the operating temps by 10degC. I normally get about 90-100degC driving on the street pre-oil cooler, now I usually get 80-90degC daily driving. I know I should have done this earlier, but I'm glad that I ordered the kit at the right time they came out with the new design sandwich plate. The plate makes installing the oil lines easier than the old kits because it clears the airbox better. If you track your car, get an oil cooler. If you don't, you don't need it. If you want to have an extra margin of safety for your engine, get one. Totally worth the money for me. Ultra Racing front under brace and middle under brace review: ![]() Some people say that the 86 is already rigid from the factory and can handle the abuse on the track. They say that it does not need additional bracing. I wanted to know and feel first hand if that's true. The ultra racing braces here are priced competitively enough that I could sell them if I did not like them and not take a big hit financially. First off, the front member under brace. It braces the front subframe in 4 points which is supposed to reduce the twisting motion when the car is subjected to track abuse. The connection point is anchored to the front subframe just below the steering rack. Second is the middle under brace which braces 4 points just after the transmission. I'm pretty skeptical with this part from the looks of it as it does not seem to brace anything. Plus it sit pretty low due to my already low ride height. On the street I could not notice anything different from the braces except for two instances. One was going up a steep driveway in which my car would always 3-wheel and cause the TC to go crazy, and second was going up a spiral road in a mall parking lot. In the steep driveway, my car would always make a creaking sound from the coilovers. With the braces on, there was no creaking sound, and going up on the mall parking lot felt a lot more solid. On the track, I felt the difference during higher speed turns. At CIS, we have turn 2, or the "corkscrew" I would always have a touch of understeer at this corner if I take the first corner too fast. During the time attack event I noticed that I could take turn 1 faster and not have under steer at turn 2. Plus combined with the whiteline and TIC steering rack bushings, the steering feel definitely felt more solid. Too solid to be honest. I now felt that the steering rack ratio became a bit slower, if that is a valid feeling. I can sometimes feel the steering rack cannot keep up when I suddenly counter steer. In my opinion, the front lower brace is money. The middle one I have removed as it scrapes everything. It's not ultra racings fault, I just have a very low ride height. But function-wise, I don't see the middle brace do anything but become ballast. I'm keeping the front lower brace on. If you're thinking about this, again on the streets you won't get any benefits, but on the track, it does help a lot. Till next time!

Thank you for all the pics/vids and reviews...
Your review of the driveshaft is really helpful...probably the first big bucks I'm going to spend after wheels/tires will be on that mod... |

It really is a worthwhile mod. You won't regret it. Plus ease of install is a bonus.
