Mileage really isn't a guarantee of anything! Granted less than 50 decreases the chances that someone or multiple some ones have not beat the snot out of the car during their "test drive"
But I bet I or anyone else could do some damage to a car in 10 miles or less.
You just have to hope that there hasn't been to many hard test drives on the car

I personally don't see a big deal in this but I understand some people like to have the car new when they buy it. I can tell you from personally working at a dealership that the only people that we have do the dealer trades for the cars are a lot of older retired folk. Most of these people just work maybe 1-2 days a week. I think your car will be fine... I am leasing my FRS and I got it with $300 miles on it and my lease did not start till I left the lot with it. To me my car is still a new car as it is the first car I have ever owned new and having a car with less than 50k miles on it is still cool to me

So to the OP I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I have a younger cousin in his teens working at a Kia/Nissan dealership and they have him and other younger guys making the dealer swaps. From what I heard, they abuse the shit out of the cars. I'm sure not everyone does that, but personally, I wouldn't buy a car involved in a dealer swap.

Mine had 87 miles on it when I got it. If the loop that the salesman had me take is any indication, there were approx. 11 people before me beating the shit out of it.

Good for the car.

I guess I should have said most dealer ships that I know of use old people for the trades. Both in California and now here in Michigan we all use older people. It all depends on the dealer but personal preference of course. Way I see it, as long as the dealership is not so scum hole I think you will be OK. I of course knew who was driving my car but I also am a little over trusting lol

Almost never done on a flatbed unless the customer is willing to foot the bill for the tow service - you're already paying a destination charge around $800 -- you really want to pay another $400 for another one?

Almost always done by a fleet of retired gentlemen looking to earn a few bucks as a retirement gig for a little cash on the side.

A dealer has no incentive to hire a young punk to go and beat the living crap out of it's own inventory and run the risk of damage, insurance claims, speeding tickets, etc for one of its employees. The older guys are easier to schedule (few outside commitments like school), don't really care about the money - they'll take minimum wage for 6-20 hours a week - and don't care about varied hours. Hell, we have one guy at our dealership that we use for the longer runs - 300-600 mile round trips - that brings his wife along and they just go out "for a nice drive" to spend time together out of the house.

The original dealer will be listed on the Monroney label. On a Toyota Monroney, it's down in the bottom right corner. Pull up the dealer on google maps, check the distance, factor in a test drive or two (most dealer loops average 5-10 miles depending on location) and you should be able to figure it out.

Most dealers will try and trade a car to another store once it hits 90-100 days in inventory - it hits "floorplan" and means the dealer is paying interest on a car that isn't sold. It clears an older car out for a newer unit - however, if the car in return is also 100+ days old, it's effectively a "new" unit as far as floorplan is considered. It's an accounting move.

200 miles on a dealer trade unit is nothing to worry about unless you're buying a car to park it in a garage for thirty years.

If the mileage concerns you, find another dealer with the car you want and verify the mileage, then purchase that car. If that's not possible, and 200 miles is still too much, have the car ordered for you. It'll be in your driveway about 7-10 weeks later with about 3-14 miles depending on which port it comes through.

Besides, you're going to do much, much worse to it yourself the second you hit 1,001 miles -- we both know that.

people are annoying about things like "break in" and "hoonage by dealer"

show me these were a direct cause to problems later on and I will give you a hundred internets.

Agreed.

Most "dealer" hoonage is actually "customer that has no respect for a car that isn't theirs beating the shit out of it on a test drive for a car they won't end up buying" hoonage.

might be a car they let people test drive; the whiteout that I test drove had about 140 miles on it

I had the option of getting another FR-S in a more desirable color that had 150 miles and was a dealer trade, but I opted out of it and got one with 10 miles on it. My last new car came with 50 (presumably hard test driven) miles and had many issues while I had it. Call me superstitious, but I prefer my cars to have the lowest amount of miles possible.

its not so much that it will cause problems down the road, but more about you being the first person to take it to redline.

you want your wife to have had dozens of partners or a modest amount? either way, a good woman is a good woman regardless of partners, but I don't want my wife to have been in multiple gangbangs.

for a regular frs, getting a dealer swap should not be an option at all. either call more dealers, or wait for one to arrive.

if you're looking for a monogram, then i would consider the dealer swap especially if youre looking for a specific color and transmission.

I bought a pickup in 05 that was driven from Austin TX to Dallas. It had chocolate on the seat, looked like the guy ate a candy bar.

Last year my FRS was driven up from Houston and had 255 miles on it. I missed some scrapes during the walk around on the chin where someone hit a dip or parking block or something. oh well
