I just want the ability to flash the latest factory calibs (since the dealers work.) One day I may fiddle with tuning, reduce closed loop, work on knock, etc, not interested in adding power just reliability Anyone notice how long it takes to warm this engine up in outside single digit temps? Can't be good for the engine. Stuff like that I like to work on when tuning, but its been a while.

I thought there was a timer/delay you can adjust in the ECU for this?

I think it may be that the sensor is still reporting the clutch as pressed in even though it's beginning to grip the flywheel. So it's running timing for a no load situation when there is load happening. Once it thinks the clutch is engaged it adjusts the timing. Although I thought there was a transient timing adjustment made when the clutch is pressed in, in anticipation of a shift. Maybe someone more knowledgeable on tuning can chime in. My old brain remembers seeing this in a MadSB post. When spring comes I hope to make a pure anti EPA, anti-street racing tune. Technically they are called track tunes (that's what Mike has now only with FI.) Its a tune that says "screw and extra 5 hp and screw the EPA, I want reliability.) I'll share, but its going to be a while.

So basically we pretty much have to wait until the DI malfunctions and those with FI are pretty much screwed. Great.

For those with a good FI tune I think have less to worry about, the professional tuner logs I've seen show much less tip in knock than stock. You have to remember the factory tune has all sorts of stupid regulations it has to pass. IMHO someone tuned by say Delicious won't have a problem. That is in less the root cause is a slow clutch-in switch, that's probably the ugliest scenario I've seen posted yet. Congrats you are a member of the Dallas I mean 2012 FR-Z buyers club.

The ways this can go wrong are: low system voltage, bad electrical connections, software and definitions not set up correctly, interruptions during flashing, etc. With just a little practice, the process is painless, fast and easy. If you are starting from scratch, it is certainly possible to fuck this up. Speaking for myself, I would much rather show someone (with a certain minimum level of tech savvy) how to do this than try to write up a completely robust internet howto (sure as hell there will be some gotcha in Win X.y that I don't know about, etc.). Ecuflash and OP2.0 is *all*over* the WRX and STi world. If you know guys who tune and tinker with those, chances are certain you can find someone who knows the ins and outs of Romraider and ecuflash (but they will need the less easy to find ecuflash beta to flash an 86). |
