I imagine that swapping an aluminum V8 would net better weight distribution than any inline 6 in the FR-S/BR-Z. weight distribution would probably come in real close to stock with the aluminium V8 while adding a straight 6 of any kind will throw weight way out towards the front. My guess is the split would come to 54.5F/45.5R ish.

Oh and also for a jack of all trades like you said you want a V8 would probably be better anyway. they typically have better torque curves for multipurpose setups. 500-600hp 2jz might have a bit more turbo lag than you would want for something like autox unless you go with a sequential setup which i dont know if you could fit that in the twins engine bay. would be sweet though haha

Dont get me wrong though. I dig the idea of a 2jz swap . they make a ton of power and i dig straight 6's thanks to my love for S30 Z's. Good luck with the swap.
The 86 doesn't have the transmission in the engine bay, per se, but in a the transmission tunnel. So, a sequential would need to fit in there.

I'm quite ignorant of the power train on the Nissan GTRs, but did any of them come with a V8? If so, I wonder if that'd be something to consider, considering what you said about an AL V8 block's weight distribution.

Wow, that is sexy.

The thing I think about most is COG, obviously will be higher with the 2JZ. That said, it looks like it's sitting pretty low in that bay. Was something done to that motor to allow clearance for it to sit that low (i.e. dry sump)? Caveat: don't know much about 2JZ motors.

Oops i didnt clearify my self. By sequential I ment turbo setup to allow for less turbo lag. Only problem is it requires a good amount of piping and piping takes up space.

GTR's never came with a V8. The R35 GTR's have an aluminum V6 with twin turbos which if I had a huge budget for a build I would use that motor. Its strong as hell and would be far more one off than any 2jz swap. Though i would guess it would also cost 2-3 times more lol

Good points, and yeah I agree, a sequential turbo setup would require more piping than we probably have available in the engine bay.

And good point about the R35's aluminum V6 and its cost. Hmm. What about a Z350's V6?

the second gen 350Z motors (VQ35HR) is a solid motor. the first gen (VQ35DE) is ok at best when compared to the HR model. the HR is better designed in almost every way and way more stout. then there is the 370Z motor (VQ37VHR). freakin awesome motor in my opinion. I really wanted to sway the 37VHR into my S30Z but life happened and funds ran dry after buying the FR-S lol.

the good thing about the 37VHR and the 35HR is they aren't all that expensive. Hell the 35HR can be had with motor, trans, harness and ecu for under $4500 if you shop right. then add a twin turbo kit (probably $6-8000) and you can have 5-600hp.

While i dig these motors too for the price of a VQ engine swap and build you can probably get a GM LSX engine and swap it with no added mods and have 400+hp with roughly the same weight. (turbos added to the V6 engine add a bit of weight).

True, but I'm trying to think of a way that the power train could stay Japanese and also not be common. B/c let's face it, EVERYONE and his cousin Juan does LS swaps into their import RWD cars.

Speaking of Paco, know what his favorite engine swap is?

I totally respect the desire to keep it Japanese. I wanted to do the same with my Z. Id say go with the VQ35HR or VQ37VHR. there are plenty of builds out there making a ton of power on N/A, single turbo, twin turbo and superchargers. I think a pretty sweet swap and build could be had for $15000. (way more than i'll be able to afford lol)

Hi guys. Sorry I have been really busy with work and prepping for TX2K. Alright so here is the update. I will upload pictures and sound clips when I get home as I am at work right now.

1) I was going the 2jz route but I switched it up to just buildings and sleeving the motor (Darton Sleeves) and I am going with a custom fabbed kit by my shop JMS Racing. I am going with a PTE 6466 turbo setup. (2200s for the injector size but due to time constraints I will be running 1300s when I go to College station & Houston.) I have a custom fabbed 3" full aluminum exhaust.

2) I am competing in the roll race to see how the car will do ( I was called out by a 700hp Ariel Atom, and a few of my GTR buddies want to run me as well). I am the only FRS in the roll racing and I am looking forward to how the car does and the street runs in Houston will be live.

3) Street testing will commence tomorrow. I will post results and vids here once it is said and done. Will keep posted.

A few of my buddies told me about your car. Sounds like a sweet setup! Do you have any YouTube videos of it running?
