Yeah you will find a lot of threads on various forums debating whether the drivetrain loss is a percentage or some set amount. In reality it's probably a little bit of both. I think some of the drivetrain components like the stuff driven off the accessory belt are probably a set amount but then others absorb more torque and then HP as your power levels increase. For instance your transmission/diff has slack in it and takes more load at higher torque/HP, until eventually it can't absorb it and it breaks. So it probably absorbs a set percentage of that torque/HP leading to the %.
There are some dynos which can measure the drivetrain losses, I think based on the amount of time it takes the wheels to stop spinning once the run is over, but I haven't seen any numbers on here. Theoretically if the car is coasting down from neutral you can figure out how long it takes and measure the frictional losses. |

Few months ago we ran a test by putting the Intercooled Sprintex vs Vortech supercharger kits against each other to see the difference.
Both cars had identical mods, except my car was Delicious tuned and the Vortech was Visconti tuned. The Sprintex kit outperformed the Vortech from start to end. Due to rivalry in SA between suppliers, I was not given the graphs overlaid, to share, at that point. Yesterday a mate, attended our local Toyota dyno shoot out and went up against the Vortech SC. Both cars have identical mods, except this Vortech is tuned via UniQ and Sprintex Delicious Tuned. Im sure many of you have not seen the 2 kits plotted on the same graph and the word is always been the twin in better low down and Vortech higher up. Well surprise surprise, this is truly an eye opener. Last edited by Ryan86; 03-03-2014 at 05:25 AM. |

You can't make a blanket conclusion from two kits tuned by two diff tuners. Look at the body of evidence from all the sprintex and vortech dynos. It is accepted that the vortech and rotrex makes more power in the top end assuming similar mods and fuel.

I would agree the second test Vortech tune With UniQ might not be up to Ecutek however the 1 st test where Delicious vs Visconti, can very much be compared as I would rate both as top tuners. |

Well after a trip to the dyno resulting in fouled out spark plugs, I had to change them this past weekend. Also added STi engine and tranny mounts.
Shot of my plugs. All of them pretty much looked exactly like this. ![]() plug change wasn't very hard after the motor was jacked up. I did cut my hands up quite a bit from the driver side change, since all the damn fuel lines are over there.

@xxscaxx
What plugs did you go with? Did you go colder? OEM spec gap? You look like you're running rich. What's your AF like? Eat your vegetables.. |

Yes obviously its running a bit rich, but I wasn't even able to get through a pull on the dyno without them fouling out so haha. AFRs were within normal range when doing etuning. But I went in for a flex fuel map so everything had to be readjusted for that. I've been on a few different tunes from different tuners as well so I am not relating this to any specific person/tune. Once I go back saturday I will post up dyno sheets/AFRs. But just checking my p3 gauge im in the 11's IIRC. Can't really get on the car... so |

One thing that worries me is the clutch. I'm trying to stay on the stock clutch right now since i'm out of money. Just hope it holds during the dyno tuning lol. If you do the plugs, just jack the motor up. I know people said you can do it without it, but it was pretty easy with the motor lifted. All you have to do is remove two bolts under there and jack it up. I did have to remove the ICM on the passenger side, and the injector cover on the driver ( can just remove the injector cover too on the passenger if you want). |

Yeah, I jacked up the back of my car with a level on the blower.
