If only there was a way to just disable the TPMS software in the ECU. An accessport feature to do that would be great. (but probably illegal)

Hopefully some people will tinker with the car and figure out a resistor mod of sorts to remove the light while running without TPMS wheels. Subarus have resistor mods for CELs (EGT sensors, airbag sensors, etc.), it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out one for this.

Hi all. I'm new to this forum (been lurking for a while and shall soon put my pre-order in the list). I ran across this forum post when I was doing some research on new TPMS sensors for this car (for the inevitable winter wheel/tire set):

In short, there are two companies, Orange and Schrader, that claim to make programmable TPMS sensors for Subarus and other makes that can be cloned to the existing sensors. There's no need to change the registered IDs in the car's computer at all.

I'm hoping that these companies will make similar sensors available for the BRZ, but based on the other comments in that linked thread, they don't seem to be widely sold or known by tire shops. The other downside is that these systems still need expensive proprietary tools to set the sensors.

I wish OEMs would make changing wheel/tire sets with TPMS easier (or at least standardized) but the current insanity probably brings in good money for service departments.

Yeah takes more expensive tools to work with the clone sensors then it does to program the EUC. It's a money making, and liability avoiding thing. There are some cars out there that you can program without special tool, but they are fewer, and fewer.

Tire pressure sensors and voice controlled twitter, I'm sure glad they're staying true to the original plan of keeping this car as a driving machine without a bunch of electronic bull getting in the way.

Maybe if we get really lucky it will have features like the mazda 2 where you can't rev it over 2k rpm while in neutral! That will protect people from damaging their drive train. I can only hope there is room for such safety features with the 20 airbags included in this car.

The closer and closer we get to release the more and more disillusioned I am getting with not just the BRZ but subaru in general. I was a bit of a fanboy before getting screwed over by multiple dealerships in my area, and while that may not directly be the subaru franchise's fault, they sure haven't done much to prevent it and have only been encouraging this mindless price inflation and underhanded lying tactics from the dealers.

It kills me how many people don't even know how to change a tire on their own car. I sometimes feel lazy because I don't change my own oil anymore, but look at how many people don't even know how to check their oil.

I'm just hoping that the TPMS sensors in my current summer wheels are compatible with the BRZ. If so they will get Blizzaks and become my winter wheels.

Anyone know if Honda and Subaru sensors are compatible? I know they both operate on 315 Mhz.

Someone else posted in that thread that they put them all inside the spare tire. No worries about the seal breaking on a hot day, and no concerns about what wheel they are in.

Only problem with that is the pressure on compact spares is usually way outside of the acceptable range. Also what happens when you need to use the spare.

I know some sensors need the motion of the wheel to trigger them to transmit.

Pssshhhh, I got my good old Tire pressure gauge pen in my glove box which I prefer. I guess I'm one of the few people who checks their TP with a TPG and oil dipstick at the gas station when I'm filling up.
