No plans to move on. I fell on love when I saw the Mk1 Concept back in the day. I have shopped around, looking at 350Z's, Miata's BMW Coups (used), even the CRZ, I know not exactly the same class, but I think its a cool car.
I think about maybe buying a Used 350 or 370Z and think about what would go through my head seing an FR-S or a BRZ on the road and regretting getting the Z. Not that there is anything wrong with other cars, but I am just really in love with the FR-S. Its really everything I want in a car and something I think I can keep for a super long time. A friend of mine has a 2001 Celica GTS with nearly 200K miles on it. He drives the crap out of it and it keeps going strong. He LOOOOVES that car and has had it for 11 years. Thats what I want out of the FR-S. - Jason

Surprised this thread didn't die within a few posts of it's inception. I pity the foo who gives up on it now considering most people who are dead-set on getting one should be sitting in one within 4 months.

I loved it so much I drove it for 3 years without A/C in South Florida because fixing the A/C was about twice the value of the car. The FR-S reminds me of that car in terms of driver experience (at least on paper). I have high hopes to relive that experience in it. |

Just don't care to spend what they want for the car. Subaru is, of course, playing on the hype that's been created for this car by adding ridiculous markups. The nearest Subaru to me wanted MSRP, whenever they figured out what the hell it was going to be, plus an addition $2500 markup...on a car that they couldnt tell me how much would cost or when they would even get it. So basically $30 OTD for a 2.0L N/A 2 door, 2800lb, RWD car... I'd give $25k OTD for that and not a penny more. Why am I gonna pay a shit ton more for less? I can get something else I want now, or I can wait til later after all the perorders and BS are over with. At that point, price-or at least the markup-will drop, and if it doesn't....oh well. I can name at least 10 cars I'd rather spend 30k on

Yeah 30k is ridic. Maybe with a factory FI, along with brake and suspension upgrades. Maybe.
But at 30k, I'm looking at a used Elise, or being 'practical' and getting a corolla+a project rx7 or something. 25k is about the most I'm willing to contemplate here as well. Even then, I'm recognizing it's a choice I'm making with the heart/****, not brain/wallet. |

1. Pricing above MSRP is done by the dealership, not Subaru. 2. There's no reason to pay above MSRP. You are not obligated to buy from your local Subaru dealership, and the Internet is a great resource to find a dealership who will deal. So pricing above MSRP is a non-issue. |

If you think the BRZ Premium should be the same price as the FR-S then I don't know what to tell you. |

Are you sure?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but MacPhersons have only one direction of travel while the other setup has upwards and downwards motions? Driving the '00 Civic Si at high speeds over the slightest bumps resulted in a single bounce, the RSX bounces 2-3 times in the same situation. I always assumed it was the different setup moreso than just being a different car. The Si was a better feeling car. |

The Si was designed as the sporting model of its lineup, so it has greater damping force in general. The RSX had to bridge this gap between quasi-luxury and sport-ish, so it had less damping in a low-cost attempt to improve ride quality on rough surfacing. The result is the RSX will be less composed at higher speeds and during high-force transitions. You can't typically generalize a cars behavior solely on its fundamental suspension layout [there are exceptions, but they are rare in modern production cars]. BMW and Porsche swear by Mac Struts and have used them for a very long time. This FR-S/BRZ uses a Mac strut up front and a multi-link in back [despite Subaru calling it "double wishbone", it's more complicated than that].

I pretty much did. The only reason why I still come to this forum is to see who has won the price guessing lottery. To my surprise (or not), the prices are not out YET! So lame..... That's one of the reasons why I moved on, but the main reason is really that I am one of the elusive. Yeah, I like cars in general and am consious about horse power, RWD vs. FWD, handling and all that good stuff, but I do not really live or die by what I drive. My span of attention is not that long either. It looks like the general consensus is that both FR-S and BRZ will start at north of $25k, so I am out. I am just waiting for the official confirmation.
