DIY: Removing interior trim
I've been searching and I've always seen posts about people asking to remove interior pieces but haven't seen a how to. Unless I'm blind and just plain missing it. If this has been done, feel free to delete it.
So with that being said I made this video out of boredom today and hope it's clear to understand. Hope it's enough to help someone even a little bit. I didn't remove the trim on the steering wheel and around the AC controls. Items need: Flat head screw driver helps getting the pieces off. Phillips screw driver to get the traction control buttons and shift boot off. Didn't take pictures, but for the trim around the AC Vents are simple. I used the flat head screw driver between where the trim connects and it pops right off, To put them back on, in my car the driver side and passenger side is different. On the driver side the side with the slit goes to the bottom, but on the passenger side the side with the slit goes at the top. They only go on one way, so it's not hard to figure out. Door trim, the stitching below the red stitches is the line you want to use. There is a small area the flat head will fit and the door trim pops right off with a little force. To put them back on, line the top up and it pops right in. The trim around the shifter, take the shift knob off first. After that you want to grab both sides by the AC Controls and pull straight up then pull around the trim. This is where the phillips screwdriver comes in. To remove the traction control buttons and such, there is two phillips screws to remove. Pull the entire trim up and the shift boot will slide right off. Four phillips screws hold the shift boot on. To put it back together, the shift boot only goes on one way. Put the 4 screws back on and slide the shift boot around the reverse lookout lever. A tip, don't pull it all the way down, it's hell to put it back on the lockout lever. Put the screws back in for the buttons. Line the trim up at the buttons and push all the way around and it pops back in place. For the piece around the radio, start on the passenger side where the two pieces line up. Push up from the bottom and pull up a little from the bottom and follow it around to take off. Same concept for the one around the radio. Putting it on is simple as well, start on the radio side. Start from the top and push it in and it pops in place. Same on the other side. That's pretty much it, not that hard. Easier than I had expected. A set of plastic trim levers is useful also. I want to say I bought a set for $15.
For the vent trim rings I recommend pulling the whole assembly. Stick a couple fingers through the flaps and pull, then pop the off by releasing the clips on the back.

I agree a screwdriver isn't the best, but in all honesty two screwdrivers is the only tool items I have. It's not something I keep.
The first vent ring, I didn't intend for it to fly off that way. I didn't think about taking the whole assembly out. I'll have to try that next time. |

It is very easy that way. I wrapped as much of the silver as I could with the vinyl used. I wish I had taken pictures of how I did everything.

How about removing the steering wheel piece? Same concept, flat head to the bottom of the piece?
