Smoke coming inside from by gear box in to cabinet
Well, I was driving one day, and it was sunny and nice outside. So I decided to do some pulls, went down to 3rd gear at around 60-65 mph and went all the way up to 5th. As I got in to 5th, I felt the gears kind of kick back at me and I was like wtf so I skipped 5th gear and just went in to 6th. And then a thin smoke came out from my gear box in to the cabinet and it didn't smell like clutch or anything I have ever smelled before. Anyways, the smoke disappeared after I opened the window. I have to kind of raise my rpm a little bit higher than it needs to for me to easily go in to 5th gear or else it feels like I put more pressure in to than I need to. All my gears work fine except for 5th. I assumed it was my syncrhos but my babe only has 6000 miles on it. I went in to the dealership but they told me nothing looked like it was worn out or anything like that.
I did do a transmission oil change at the first 4000 miles on it so I know I don't have any metal shavings since its a new car. Anyone else experienced the same thing or know what this might be? |

hmmmm.......well, 86main, I can't imagine that the "smoke" that crept into the cabin of your car came from a manual transmission (your car is a manual is it not?). The transmission is a pretty tight box and your car was moving on down the road.
Are you sure it wasn't hot/burnt "clutch" you were smelling? You might check that cam cover to make sure it's not leaking and dripping down on the exhaust pipe. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45097 How does your clutch adjustment feel ..... any different? humfrz Last edited by humfrz; 02-27-2014 at 09:12 PM. |

Thanks humfrz for the reply, But yeah, it wasn't the clutch burning for sure. And the can covers I haven't checked out yet... This is good news for me, because if it's just the can cover... I won't be needing to get new tranny. And the clutch adjustment never changed. But the clutch pedal is definitely too soft for my liking. That's for sure haha |
