You know what, I installed the KN just because it was on sale - I'm sure it makes gains but I haven't really paid too much attention to it. It does sound better but I don't want too much noise anyway.

Get em both, then stick with the one you like best. Sell the other one.

Just keep the stock box and get a drop in filter. Also look @ it this way. The $ you save can go towards a Tune like an ecutek or OFT. Much better use of the money.

I am not sure if there is an interference effect with both AEM cai and light weight pulley. The losses I've evperienced is not significant, but it's noticeable. |

After using aem for about 6 months I started to read about how others were switching back. I liked the oem sound tube and it felt better at low rpm, throttle response was much better but +7k rpm the aem might have had a little more power but Im never that high.
To your original question. I needed to change out my oem filter so I bought the Perrin drop in and the engine seems to be working a lot easier throughout the whole range and sound is cleaner and louder. Much better for the $$$. If I buy OFT or UniChip I might try to see if aem has any advantage, but for the time being Im enjoying stock+.

So, question. Is there a benefit to changing the inlet hose to one of the spiffy silicone hoses? Or should I just leave the entire intake stock except the filter?

im not quite sure if there are gains on the inlet hose, airflow wise IMO much better than stock hose.

this time, im having everything stock except intake. the behavior of this cai was the same as my previous experience; its a bit low from 1-3k. stronger from 3-5k and 5-7k are extremely responsive and willing. note: the overall performance is equivalent and marginally improve over stock setup. the difference is where power band shift upward from sub 3 to 4-5k. the good is that the power delivery through the RPM ranges becomes more linear. rather than the camel hump performance curve like the stock setup, the AEM setup feels smoother and more consistent. the bad is that you dont get as much useful power on demand during normal street driving. if by habits you shift below around 3k rpm, you will find yourself either changing your habit to shift around 4k or feel the lack of expected power. just last weekend i did a canyon run with stock setup. since it was raining and flash flood were present at various location. the sudden power drop between 3-4 k got me into trouble a few time. i would like to try again with the AEM intake to see if the flatter power curve helps. |
