I want some of that "Mad JDM yo" action.
I mentioned this in another thread, but I think it would be kinda cool if there was a TRD FR-S with Scion badges. |

Amusingly the cool thing over here is left hand drive because a lot of the expensive european cars like BMW, Porsche and Audi are LHD. Toll booths and stuff cater to both LHD and RHD though, I'd imagine driving RHD in america would just be a huge and unnecessary hassle. I've been driving here for about two years and I still occasionally mix up the headlight and blinker stalks.

I've seen a Japanese TRD catalogue and nearly ruined my pants at all the cool shtuff available there... None of which is available here. TRD USA is developing their own accessories. |

But you what's kind ironic/comical is that Japanese tuners want their cars to look like USDM. I guess its the just the phenomena of rarity; but for me, when it comes down to it the JDM versions just seem better made especially from the inside.

Go here: http://trdparts.jp/english/ Find what you want (if it's still in production, won't be an issue with the 86 thankfully). Get the part number and see if your Toyota dealer get them in for you. Not going to be cheap, though.

We are very fortunate to have a euro spec which will make translations and transactions that much more easier. Those are the small upgrades I plan to do for now since I'm leaning more towards the FR-S. Not sure about it now but back then, Low Riders were big in Japan. They had the entire culture down to the tee, even rocking the Mexican flag!

^ Read an article about some Japanese street racers. Guy had an EF Civic with a US CRX bumper on it...

Personally, if it's an FR-S without the HID option, I'd go straight for the headlights; those chrome-housed halogen projectors have to go. Even then I wouldn't be converting to FT-86 lights, but BRZ lights. Ballasts can be had from the Lexus family (or generic) for cheap and I'd do the wiring myself if it's not plug and play (I'm assuming it won't be). Worst case scenario, non of the BRZ parts are interchangeable and I'd have to swap the halogen projectors with a set of HID ones and go from there.
As for TRD parts, experience tells me they're just going to rebadge aftermarket parts and add the TRD tax to it *cough*K&N/TRD intake, Borla/TRD exhaust*cough**hack*. They're still quality parts, but kind of loses some of it's "charm" when you learn that truth. Also, while JDM TRD parts are almost legitimate, race-ready parts, USDM TRD parts are more toned down and cosmetic in nature. |
