Normally I wouldn't derail a thread but since this one has turned to poop anyway...

The thought crossed my mind, but since I'm doing a near frame off restoration on the car anyway, I'm going to change it to a faux-Cobra 429. Since they are both 385 blocks, and the 460's are much easier to find... you get the idea.

Let me be a little more supportive for you.

Sell your car without engine. Give the $ to your parents.

Make yourself comfortable in the basement.

Stay there.

All I see here is people trying to steer you on the less damaging path that will be better in the long run, but all you see is people "hating"

Yeah... I think you should stick with just using the automatic mode on an automatic transmission.

I don't understand why you are considering an engine swap. But, then again, I don't understand 90% of the decisions you've shared with us in this thread.

yeah my parents help me, it's cause I lost a hell of a good job, why? cause I am an idiot. a duh

they may help or may not. LIKE I SAID, if worst comes to worst, my car will be sitting in garage until I can afford a new motor.

as of right now I am, I'm not going to take it as a lost.
honestly, I can't lmfao.

did I mention I'm 22 and a college student?
yeah my parents pay for my car, but they don't pay for my student loans.
so, a little help for another 4-5 months until I graduate will be fine.
because for hell, they didnt help support me from 18-22 if thats what your thinking, and NO they did not buy me my FRS, I actually had $ and downpayment for it. And NO I dont go begging mommy and daddy for money, but right now I am.

I currently work 2 jobs, I am actually making more money then I did when I had my (GOOD) job. I just need to save and quit living that yolo life.

As of right now, those are my options. If anyone wants to be apart of it, your more then welcome to ride. If your just going to hate it on. I get just like DGK; I love haters <3
Please stop yelling...

It takes your post and changes it from a thoughtful discussion into a temper-tantrum.

After looking at some of your other posts where you talk about your driving record, and looking at your statements here. Its my opinion that you are presently incapable of making a good decision due to massive immaturity for someone your age. I was in Somalia at 22 (Operation United Shield... Google it!) and I have zero sympathy for you or others like you.

Best of luck to you and for the sake of your parents... I hope that you grow up soon son.

Scott

Yep, definitely way easier to find. What rear end are ya putting on that thing.

Right now, I am working on restoring my already (could be-daily driven 64 galaxie). Bought all new rear-end, 445 stroker from Survival Motorsports, a 5speed (SS700) manual trans from Keisler Engineering. Oh man...just the thought.

But you're right...help is help...

This is coming from someone who has been on his own since the age of 17, paying for HIS own stuff. With hard work. I put myself through school/college, purchased my own cars. I'm well-rounded. And now I help both my parents out.

I don't want to be a jackass/sound like one either. And I clearly do not want to offend anyone.
Cool story bro, Im 24, live with my parents, have 2 cars, currently doing a masters, and all my money goes towards car parts...

Also, I have no debt.

I rarely ask for anything, im just given it... no point in saying no.

I have been working on cars for almost 25 years and performed my first engine swap back in 1992 which was a 400hp 351 Cleveland that shoe-horned into a 2.3L 1981 Mustang GL. I have done several swaps since (both import and domestic) and I am currently working on a 1971 Ford Torino that is getting its 302 automatic changed out for a 460 4-speed so decide for yourself if I know what I am talking about or not.

(If Drift Office chimes in here I would SERIOUSLY listen to them!!)

First rule of thumb on engine swaps in ANY car. Figure out how much it will cost and then TRIPLE IT! Figure out how long it will take and QUADRUPLE THAT!! And those rules of thumb are for people that know what they are doing which you do not. I applaud your willingness to learn but such an ambitious project is no place for a newbie.

Just off the top of my head... To have that engine placed in your car properly will require at a minimum.

- Engine
- Custom wiring harness
- ECU and professional tuning
- Custom fabricated oil pan
- Custom fabricated headers
- Custom fabricated exhaust
- Custom fabricated engine mounts
- Custom fabricated transmission mounts
- Custom fabricated driveshaft
- Transmission (and no, unless you're buying a very new AOT, your paddles will not work)
- Custom fabricated EVERYTHING for the transmission.
- Custom fabricated cooling system
- Custom fabricated intake system
- Custom fabricated turbine plumbing
- Custom fabricated intercooler
- Brakes
- Springs
- Chassis modification (floor pan)

I know for a fact that this list is in actuality MUCH longer but this is just off the top of my head.

Take my advice son... sell the car and cut your losses or have someone professionally replace your engine with another FA20 if you can afford it. Don't try it yourself.

Scott

I will actually take this to consideration.

Thanks

9" since the car only has the 8" and I'm planning for 500ft/lbs of torque.

I'd be happy to talk about the Torino in another thread or via PM. I would also like to hear about that Galaxy! Awesome!

I've already spent more time in this thread than I wanted to and I've said everything that I felt needed to be said so I'm walking away from this disaster.
