SO I SKREWED MYSELF BIG TIME
Sounds a little to me like the last oil change didn't get done 100% correct and maybe the drain plug bailed out somewhere on the road. If you happened to have been driving a long distance on this trip, there would be virtually no oil in your drive way, and unfortunately, no oil in your engine anymore. I assume the dealer would have looked for the drain plug as maybe the first or second trouble shooting step, but, if they're the only ones who've touched it, meybe it was easy for them to just put one in and say Lord Xenu recalled all the oil.
What *exactly* is broken? I drive an auto in manual mode all the time too, so I'm extra interested in the whole story if this was a tranny related issue. Good luck. Edit: or you're is banking on mommy and daddy replacing the motor with whatever you want, and you pulled the plug yourself. No offense, I'm just an equal opportunity realist.

I basically begged three different dealers to do our first service at 2,500 and they all flat said no. Even though they're my paid-for services to use, they said we'll talk when you're at 7,000. We're at 6,800 and she goes in Saturday. I also check fluids constantly though. Sent from a secret volcano base using trained sharks |

Honestly, I don't think you have any idea of what you're getting into.
Here's my 2 cents. 1) Get a used motor : I did a cursory quick check, a 5000 mile motor for $4k, without shipping. 2) Install it PROFESSIONALLY ~ $1500. 3) Sell your car, recoup your losses and move on to something else that isn't going to ruin you financially. My 2 cents. Bob @ Drift-Office, LLC |

Also, OP, considering you've admitted to having been dumb, don't go wanting to put in a 1jz or 2jz instead of another fa20 block. The fa20 is cheaper than a 1 or 2jz swap. And just b/c dealership is trying to get out of this doesn't mean it's over. I was forgetful several times with my old WRX & twice went about 20k without service of any kind (including oil changes). Car's engine was fine, and those EJ's aren't as robust as the fa20 (ringlands, anyone). When that car was traded in, she was clean & in good repair, even after two times where I went obscenely over the oil change interval. If the dealership was the last to mess with your oil before the failure, and you have the work order receipt to prove it (you do have that, right?), then you can continue the dispute & keep trying to get the dealership to pay up. If they screwed up, it indeed isn't warrantied under your vehicle's warranty (meaning Toyota or subaru foots the bill), but it IS on your dealership to rectify. They don't want to, b/c they'll have to foot the bill without compensation from Toyota or Subaru. Thus them trying to get you to pony up instead. Don't fall for it. I'm on my phone so if I make mistakes, blame Sportsguy83

Kind of reminds me of the old story about the dude that was stuck on the roof top of his house during a flood, after he prayed to God to be saved ...... a boat pulled up. He refused a ride, because God was going to save him ..... well, you know the rest of the story ......

I can't believe I just read this entire thread. I'm pretty sure I just lost about 30 IQ points in doing so. To make matters worse, I'm chiming in...
Sitha, I am also in the camp that there is something else that either A) You don't know, or B) Aren't telling us. If you TRULY didn't have any oil in your engine, you would have had at least one warning light illuminated on your dash prior. Not to mention it would have likely overheated due to the excess friction triggering another light. Since you didn't mention the car giving you any kind of warning in the last 5 pages before your magical "clanking" noise... something is being left out here. Also, it is readily apparent that you have the equivalent car knowledge of a 14 year old girl and an equitable dependency on your parents at 22. Sell your car ASAP and get a car that you can afford (that doesn't mean your parents). It is only out of sheer curiosity that I want to know WHY you were manually downshifting into second. Somehow I doubt that you will fess up to running the car hard but I thought I would ask anyway. Finally, you started this thread yesterday and yet you claim that you have already gone back and forth with the dealership about this. I call BS. I say that because dealerships can take days or even weeks to make a formal decision on a denial of a warrantee claim or even do a full estimation of the repair. Yet this thread was started yesterday and you claim they have rendered a final decision. Too many holes in your story, too many inconsistencies and judging from your lack of maturity, I am skeptical you didn't break the car by driving it like an idiot. If I were to offer up a theory, I would say that you broke the engine from driving it too hard, drained out the oil, and then tried to blame it on your last oil change and are now trying to legitimize your lie here. FAIL! Scott
