I've done it before and as mentioned fluid is a must. I boiled mine, the pads held up as long as you're easy on them.

Are you comfortable swapping pads on your own? If so, I'd recommend you use a race pad for the occasional track day, and then swap back to a street pad. You can buy pads that are compatible in terms of bedding.

If you can deal with increased dusting and the possibility of noise, then you can start with a hybrid pad or a race pad, and leave them on your car full time.

I leave Project Mu race pads on my car full time.

Swapping options:
Carbotech 1521 (street) / Carbotech XP10/12 (race)
Project Mu NS400 (street) / Project Mu Club Racer (race)
Winmax W1/W2 (street) / Winmax W5/6 (race)

Compromise options:
Carbotech AX6/XP8
Project Mu HC+800
Winmax W3/4

Thanks! I'll probably end up going with a compromise. The car will see much more street use than track use. I'll only track the car as much as I can afford it. I don't have access to tools to swap pads that much so I'd be happier with a full time solution. I'll look into those three compromise options.

Thanks a lot for the help!

That's what you think until you hear the SQUEEEEEEEEEAAAL. Even with a tame pad like Carbotech XP8, squeals like a stuck pig. If you're going to track, do yourself a favour and buy a torque wrench to check that your lug nuts are torqued down to spec. Once you have that, all you need is one wrench to take off two bolts to remove the caliper and swap the pads.
